Any homesteaders out there?

So if you don’t know what I mean by homesteader, it is a back to the basics movement that has many folks moving to land in the country and living a simple lifestyle. That often involves gardens and maybe raising some livestock. I’ve been learning a lot about this lifestyle and it makes a bunch of sense to me. It is sensitive to the environment and most homesteaders strive for some level of self-sufficiency. I’ve been in the materialistic corporate life for 2 decades and I’m ready for a change. Homesteading makes a lot of sense to me.

I’m hoping that if you are still reading this, you do know something about where I’m coming from. Maybe it just interests you but you aren’t doing anything about it. Fine. Maybe you’re just starting. Me too. And some of you might be well down the road. Congrats!

It seems to be difficult to meet people with this mindset. Maybe there aren’t many in this area but I doubt that. I’m hoping to meet some people that have interest in this lifestyle. Maybe even find someone that is interested in doing it together. And if there was some chemistry, wow, how cool.

I’ve been working forever and am ready to hang it up in terms of working for someone else. I have a homestead in the mountains where I’ll move full time before the end of the year (2006) and will try to apply what I have learned about simple living and self-sufficiency. I’ll make it work.
