About Me
Now I remember why I haven't signed up for this before. This part. Fortunately, there are some bullet-points for me to run through Powerpoint style. Hopefully at some point I'll find the time to upgrade this section and make it more eloquent. In the meantime...
My primary hobby is my band. I play the guitar (and other stringed instruments), sing, and write songs. I give guitar lessons. I love to go out to see live music as well. I listen to all types of music: Hip-Hop to Country to Jazz to Rock. Not a whole lot of Classical or Opera but my iTunes library is eclectic to say the least. And, as a total non sequitur, I love to cook.
I'm a New York City transplant, and while that often surprises people at first, it certainly manifests itself in my personality enough that's it's apparent to those that know me. I am honest and straightforward, sometimes verging on blunt. I'm more in tune with my emotions than most guys and I am unafraid to talk about them.
As far as goals and aspirations are concerned, primarily I just want to be happy. Someday I'd like to start a family, but not anytime soon. In the short term, I'm just looking for someone fun to share my life with.
I took this off my facebook page to flush this out:
25 Things - 1. I take really long showers. I feel like I do my best thinking in the shower. I've written entire songs in the shower.
2. In 4th grade, I won the National Elementary Chess Championship (amongst 4th graders, but still).
3. I have a scar above my upper lip from falling out of a high chair when I was 1 and a half. It used to be much bigger and I complained to my parents all the time when I was little. Their response was always that I could I grow a a mustache when I got old enough. Today they take the credit (blame?) for my beard.
4. I don't have cable. And I don't miss it.
5. I am unapologetically the biggest fan of my band. Even if I weren't in the band I would still love it. If you haven't yet, you should become a fan of Patina on facebook and my space.
6. My middle name is McCoy.
7. I am not religious. If you are, we should probably never discuss this.
8. I've owned 2 cars, both Honda Civics, named The Rev and Maggie.
9. I grew up on Roosevelt Island in New York City. I never thought it was strange until later in life. It was a great place to grow up, but it was strange. Google it.
10. When I commuted to Trinity (91st btw. Columbus & Amsterdam) from my apartment on Roosevelt Island, my commute was approximately 2 hours.
11. I love to cook, almost as much as I love to eat.
12. I'm culinarily adventurous. I'll eat anything and will actively seek out things I haven't tried. If you've ever looked at a menu and thought "Who would order that?!?" It's me. I would.
13. I have a long puke streak going right now. The last time I threw up was from food poisoning in a hotel lobby in Bangkok on my birthday in 2005.
14. I went through a nearly 2 year phase in my life in middle school when I listened to nothing but Aerosmith. Seriously.
15. I love sports. Especially the Blazers and the Mets. I spend absurd amounts of time geeking out about the relative merits of OPS, BA, OBP, GB:FB, K:BB, etc.
16. One of was earliest memories is Game 1 of the 1986 World Series. I went with my dad and we sat in the bleachers in the rain for several hours before the game was rained out. I remember this night much better than the following night when we went back and the game was actually played. I do remember crying in the car on the way home because the Red Sox beat Dwight Gooden (1-0). I also remember thinking that Mookie Wilson would have been safe at 1st anyway on the ball that got by Buckner in Game 6 but Ray Knight wouldn't have scored and... I could go on, but I won't, you get the point.
17. I have fantasy sports teams and I'm not sorry. It's right at the intersection of sports and statistics. It's like I was made to play fantasy sports.
18. So far (8 days), my 30s have been an amazing whirlwind of fun.
19. My vision is terrible. My correction is -8.50 in both eyes and has been that bad since 3rd grade. I had to go to vision training classes when I was little to strengthen my eye muscles. People thought I could go completely blind. I got glasses in 1st grade. I got contacts a week before 5th grade, it was one of the happiest days of my life.
20. I 3 Muppets. I used to have every episode of the original Muppet Show on videotape and would watch them all the time. I remember my parents renting a second VCR so I could make mix tapes of my favorite sketches.
21. I have visited and spent at least one night in every state but Alaska.
22. I generally don't like sweet foods and drinks. I avoid dessert, soda, and sugary snacks, and as a result I'm very sensitive to sugar. I even prefer Scotch to Bourbon because I find Bourbon cloyingly sweet.
23. I am a horrifically bad golfer but I enjoy it and I did once eagle a par 4.
24. My father is turning 80 in June. My mother's name is Michael, and she is 15 years younger.
25. I fought texting for a long time. While I'm fully on board these days and see the advantages and have finally added it to my phone plan, I'm still really slow and I get frustrated having conversations via text. Excluding situations that would preclude conversation, if I have to send more than one text, I'd rather talk to you on the phone.
Obviously, there's a lot more to me than that. But then again, finding that stuff out is what's fun about all this.
First Date
What I'd do on a first date depends entirely on who it was with. Generally, find some common ground and come up with an activity. Go see a show maybe? Bowling? Last Thursday? Whatever you're into.
