Okay, I asked a question in my headline - so here is my answer:
I am looking for long-term eventually but first I want to start out with a friendship as that will last longer and grow stronger with time. I would love to find a gentleman who has some of the same interests but who does not believe that we have to have to spend time with only each other all the time. I want him to have his friends to play poker or go to a game with on the weekends as I have girlfriends who I cherish and want to continue our friendships while building a relationship with that special man. I am not into bars, head games or one-night stands. I am not interested in anyone who wants to control me or change me, and I will not do either to him as each of us must be mature enough to recognize our uniqueness is a positive not a negative characteristic. I like to be pampered but do not demand it, and I believe in returning the gesture. While I believe Mr Right is out there and will come across my path one day, I don't expect him to ride up on a white horse in shining armor. Spending time together is the best way to build a relationship, so if you are wanting a long-distance relationship, it will not work with me. I am independent however I am not afraid of showing when I need your help or want you to intervene. In all relationships, there are three qualities which are mandatory for me: respect, dignity and honesty.

First date? How about first meeting? I enjoy a good cup of coffee somewhere that is relaxing and we both can get to know one another.

As for the first date - that should be a joint decision and will vary depending on your interests and what is going on at the time. How about dinner and a movie, picnic and a walk in the woods, checking out an art gallery, take in the current exhibit at a museum or a concert in the park?
