love, love, love...1st dates are a moot point...who u are under that existential microscope, has nothing 2 do with who u are in real life...so, 1st meetings are to be discarded...in favour of who you really are, when push comes to shove, as the eagles might lament, "in the long run...

Marriage and relationships work beautifully if...

1. Both people are past the age of total selfishness (late 30s-40's)
2. They are in their world outlook, mentally & spiritually looking in the same direction.
3. They are more committed to working together in turbulence than they are to automatically bailing out.
4. They can make each other laugh.
5. They are more kind to each other's faults and weakness than they are to exploiting them once discovered.
6. Neither seek power, but recognition of each others unique strengths and talents. (ie, You're better at budgeting, I'm better at organizing etc...)
7. They like or at least don't despise the same kind of movie rentals and music.
8. They may both have other friends and extended family, but the new mate now becomes the first priority of each.
9. Home is a place of sanctuary from the bloody world, a place of healing, not deeper cuts.
10. They should continue to learn and work together on projects.
I'd just like to add a few mottos I live by...."To stagnate is to die a little at a time." That along with "Dance like there's nobody watching." and I just found a new one, "Life is short, Break the Rules, Forgive quickly, Kiss slowly, Love truly, Laugh uncontrollably, And never regret anything that made you smile." I really like that one.
