About Me
I'm a very active, inquisitive guy, with a self-deprecating sense of humor. I would rather do sports than watch them on tv, although I will occasionally watch football or baseball socially with friends, over a cold beer and pizza. I'm a t-shirt and jeans kind of guy, although I do clean up well for a night on the town. My friends know that I'm loyal, trustworthy, and willing to do just about anything for them.
I was married for a long time, unfortunately we grew apart; I have partial custody of my 2 1/2 year old son, who's a total flirt; and I have full custody of two zany greyhounds. I really enjoy cycling (on and off road,) kayaking, woodworking, and have an interest in anything mechanical from the pre-throw-it-in-the-landfill-when-it-breaks days. I enjoy always trying and learning new things, and have the utmost respect for those who do the same, even if they fail.
I will be there to cheer you up when you're having a bad day, to hold an umbrella for you when it's raining, hold a door open for you, and put my arm around you when you're cold. I'll try my best to keep you laughing, hold an intelligent conversation on a myriad of topics, and challenge yourself mentally and physically.
There's a large, built in library in my basement and it's full of books on many different topics, or, if you'd prefer, a small garden in my yard where I attempt to keep the local groundhogs and rabbits fed. There is also a workshop where I keep and restore my antique cars and a full woodworking shop which I'd love to show you.
I have a degree from Tufts in Architectural History with a minor in Engineering; I now build custom homes and additions, although the current economy has been cause for me to rethink my goals; I'm thinking of working towards building net-zero houses if I can find some like-minded individuals. Either that or I'm going to try one of those gigs with the signs at the intersection of two major roads: "Please help, overeducated slob needs money for beer, and I-tunes uploads."
Musically my tastes run from the Ramones to Stone Temple Pilots to Johnny Cash to Barrence Whitfield and the Savages, although my Ipod has classical, new country, alternative rock and even some folk tunes-and yes even "Spiderpig" from the Simpsons- D'oh! I'll show you my playlists if you show me yours...I'm always up for live music, my current favorite venue is the House of Blues, but Johnny D's is great ,too.
First Date
I guess it depends on the weather, and our moods...something active if it's nice out, maybe kayaking down the Charles to look at the foliage, or apple picking if it's a little cooler....then something to eat or drink, someplace quiet, so we could have a chance to talk, maybe wrap up the day with an ice cream or cup of coffee and a nice walk someplace scenic. If the weather refuses to cooperate (unusual in New England, I know) maybe we could vistit a museum (Gardner, Harvard Museum of Nat'l History, Higgins Armory...)
