About Me
I am a math professor at a university. I am an honest, loyal, intelligent, giving, kind person. I can be a bit shy at first.
Also, I guess I'm a bit of a geek, since my hobbies include such things as collecting comic books (yes, and action figures too), playing games of all sorts (board games, video games, you name it... but never playing games with someone's emotions), reading science fiction books, and watching TV and movies especially (you guessed it) science fiction. But I don't really *act* like that much of a geek; I keep my hobbies under wraps. I don't talk endlessly about the merits of the various interpretations of Superman (though I certainly *could* at a moment's notice). I can't speak Klingon or anything like that (though I do own a Klingon/English dictionary... but that's just because I was going through a phase of studying languages like Greek, Latin, Spanish, Arabic, Russian, and Japanese... oh and I also tried to learn Egyptian Hieroglyphics on my own). And while I could drown someone in my vast storehouse of Dr. Who trivia, I keep that to myself unless someone seriously is interested. (Dr. Who is the longest running science fiction TV show. It's British. If you've even heard of it, you earn points in my book.)
I'm definitely not one of the herd. I am an atheist. (Yes, seriously. No, that's not going to change. If that's a problem for you, just keep on walking.) I don't smoke or drink. I'm not much of an outdoorsy person (though I like swimming and the occasional hike). I don't have any interest in sports.
I like to think I've got a good sense of humor. What's a libertarian salad? Lettuce alone. Ha ha. Okay, maybe I don't have a great sense of humor. But I try.
As far as goals and aspirations... well, I've achieved everything I've ever wanted, except for true love. The options here regarding marital status don't quite describe my situation. I feel I'm halfway between single and divorced because I was engaged but then she left me. We were never married so I'm not divorced, but we came within a few months of being married.
First Date
Oh, boy, first dates are always awkward. There's dinner, where we nervously try to ask each other questions while feeling each other out. There's going to see a movie, where we sit in silence and just happen to be in proximity to each other. First dates suck. I wish it was possible to just start with a second date or third date even. But I guess we have to start somewhere. Starting with a movie is good because then at least there's some common ground to talk about at dinner afterwards since you can then talk about the movie. So that would be my choice for the easy generic first date: movie first then dinner. But there are other options. And I'm open to suggestions.
