About Me
My life constantly revolves around music. I'm one of the founding members of a local non-profit dedicated to supporting the arts in El Paso. I try to go to as many shows as I possibly can, and I'm deeply connected to the local music scene. I would love to see El Paso become more than just some city bands happen to drive through on their way to Austin.
My taste in music has been fairly eclectic over the years. I went from being a Tool fanatic to listening to Death Cab for Cutie and the Format over the course of a month or so. The two bands that have managed to stay near the top, though, are Modest Mouse and The Weakerthans.
I am a computer science major with a minor in math at the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP). I should be out of school in a year and a half. From there, I'm taking this show on the road and heading to Austin or San Francisco. I love El Paso, but this just isn't the city for what I want to do. Speaking of what I do, I build web sites and web applications at a local web development company. We have a blast, and I really enjoy what I'm doing. Unfortunately, I've worked at two of the three businesses that do web development locally, and I'm going to hit the ceiling sooner rather than later when it comes to upward mobility.
For fun, I'm usually just down to hang out with some friends, drink a few beers, and shoot the shit. I also enjoy bike riding, bouldering, and hiking. I spend the majority of my time connected to technology, so I relish in the times where I can truly disconnect.
I'm not really looking for anything serious, but I suppose I'm open to it if someone should come along. I'm looking for someone with which I can have intelligent conversation. I don't necessarily need someone to share my exact views. In fact, I enjoy someone that can challenge my beliefs. It keeps me from becoming complacent.
First Date
I don't typically plan out dates in advance. I prefer to meet somewhere comfortable, say, a coffee shop, chat for a while, then head out into the city. There are some beautiful parks (Madeline and Tom Lea are my two favorites) that are nice to hit up.
If the date was a bit of the outdoorsy-type, I'd head up to Transmountain an hour or so before dusk, hike up to the top, and watch the sun set.
Perhaps we could go to a show if I happened to catch wind of one.
Basically, I try to avoid the stereotypical dinner and a movie date. The dinner makes sense, but the movie doesn't. On a first date, I'm trying to get a feel for someone, get to know them better. If I can't talk to you, that pretty much throws a wrench into the whole operation, doesn't it?
