About Me
If you asked my friends to describe me, they would likely respond with words like serious, funny, intense, lighthearted, right-brained, left-brained. Things that are seemingly contradictory; in other words, complex. You can’t describe a wine worth drinking in just a few words, so how could you distill the essence of a person worth knowing into only a few adjectives? And I suppose that describes the kind of person I am looking for.
I am a scientist by occupation- yes, I’m a math geek; but I also have a creative side that I have to nurture. So I write, play music (guitar and bass), paint and sketch occasionally. I like to be with people who are articulate, creative, outgoing, and free-thinking.
Despite being an analytical person by occupation I think that deep-down I am a hopeless romantic. I love getting under a blanket before a roaring fire, giving and getting backrubs, taking long walks together, watching the sun set, watching the sun rise (sometimes in the same night). I live on the coast and I love to be on the water, whether it’s kayaking, sailing, or cruising around in my antique wooden runabout. I enjoy all kinds of music, from opera (but I won’t subject you to it if you don’t), to jazz, to the Grateful Dead. I play classical guitar (well, play at it, really) and play bass in a blues/rock/jam band. Sunday morning, I like to curl up on the sofa and share the NY times. I usually go for the Week in Review first, but if you want it I will settle for the magazine. I enjoy cooking, fine wines, going out to special restaurants. I like being outdoors, hiking, bike riding, and playing tennis. I’m very secure and comfortable in this phase of my life, and if you are too but would find life’s experiences even more satisfying with someone special to share them with, perhaps we should get together?
I’d like to meet someone who is intellectual, passionate, caring, and has a positive outlook on life. I have certain values that are very fundamental and thus I don’t think that a relationship would have potential unless you share them with me. I am committed to social justice, peace, and the environment. I suppose that I am pretty far to the left politically. I think that it is fine to appreciate beautiful things, but I am turned off by excessive materialism. If you define yourself as spiritual that is fine, but I would be wary of someone who practices religion in a traditional sense. I enjoy sharing a nice bottle of wine and talking about politics, art, architecture, culture, science. I really value intelligent conversation, but then I also like spontaneity, and if you’re a bit quirky sometimes, I will not only tolerate it but find it endearing.
I’m not looking for one night stands, games (except for backgammon), or drama (except for Beckett). I’m seeking a stable, committed, comfortable but passionate long term relationship with that special person. What am I really looking for? That spark that appears in someone’s eyes when she is excited to see you at the end of the day.
First Date
Meet for coffee, or perhaps a glass of fine. Something casual, just to get a chance to know one another. Or, perhaps go for a walk or a bike ride. If you have other ideas, I'm open to anything!
