My headline comes from the poem "Not So Soft" by Ani Defranco, and I think it sums up my personality pretty well. I am a VERY curious person, and my favorite question is WHY? (some kids outgrow this, I apparently have not). I love it when people open my eyes to new experiences, music, foods, cultural traditions, and ideas (from good sources only, if it's political or scientific). I think it is important to be open to change based on new information and experiences.

As far as music, my philosophy is that if you limit yourself to one or two genres you're bound to get bored. This philosophy has led me to fall in love with music ranging from "my girls" as I like to call them (Ani, Tori, Fiona, Natalie, Indigo Girls, Dixie Chicks - I really like harmony) to 2-Pac (he actually raps about social issues quite a bit) to System of a Down (and much more in between).

Friends and family are very important to me (none more than my daughter), I HATE racism and unfair discrimination, and I am concerned about important social and environmental issues (just ask, I'll tell you all about it). I LOVE the forest and the environment on which we all depend. I also love my career, b/c it allows me to influence the next generation of Americans. I'm not trying to brainwash anyone; I just feel that if I give my students enough good information they are bound to agree with my stance on issues or change my mind - which is just as good. I love to talk things through until everyone in the room agrees (or we find out who is unreasonable).

Having said all of this, I am a very easily amused person. It doesn't take much to entertain me since I am usually just happy being me. I am the guy that's always laughing at his own jokes.

P.S. Although it looks like it in my picture, I am NOT bald!

The first date would be something simple... just finding a spot to have a drink and talk. The second date would hopefully consist of a picnic (if it's warm outside) or dinner at my house.
