Euthypros dilemma: Is an action good because its good? Or is an action good because God commands it to be?

"Well God commands what is good!"

If an action is good because God commands it to be! Then moral law is arbitrary! An action is not good because its good. But an action is only good simply because someone said so? So moral law is meaningless!

"Well okay an action is good because its good!"

Well if you say God does not command morality he simply recognizes what is good. Then moral law is thus its own nature and separate from God. So you can not bring up morality and invoke Gods existence!



Epicurus's riddle.. "The problem of evil"

Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? "Then he is not omnipotent"

Is God able but not willing? "Then he is malevolent"

Is God both able and willing? "Then winch cometh evil?"

Is God neither able nor willing? "Then why call him God?"
