I think anything over liquids and having a chance to talk is ideal. I think it does not matter if its a drink in a bar (not a nightclub) or coffee as long as communication is established. If things go well I see no reason to not go for a bite to eat or listen to a live band somewhere. I think more extensive day dates and activities should take place after you both agree you want to see each other. I also believe I am the guy and you should not be expected to pay, open a door or be treated poorly. I enjoy treating people well and expect the same consideration.
