My Zen practice has become central to how I live my life over these past several years. Seeing more clearly how my own mind and body work has helped me to understand others better and to be more sensitive to the pain and joy that we all have to deal with in our lives.
Teaching architecture has also helped to deepen the way I see the world, and I think the Zen practice has helped me to engage with students more effectively - so, I'm beginning to see, from experience, the extent to which all these things are interconnected.

Concerning relationships: It's important to me to be able to share my life with a close companion, when possible - so that my care-taking energies can be directed outward to an other - not always focused on myself. Sharing is so necessary for well-being. As is laughter...

Things I'm good at: Pilates; catching an apple when it's thrown really fast and unexpectedly from across the room; eating warm blueberries - and sushi, not at the same time; reading maps; driving a car; walking at dusk while chatting with friends in the fantastic cemetery near where I live; pitching my tent in under three minutes; massaging feet in warm mineral springs, while watching the birds (in the a.m.) or the leaves fall (in Autumn) or breathing out steam in the frosty night air (at New Year's)- the warm water is such an excellent vantage point from which to enjoy all these things.

Movies: international and indie - I find Hollywood mostly unpalatable. Like to watch Peter Sellers do his thing - like beautiful images... Into Great Silence, Tarkovsky, Bergman, Hitchcock and musicals sometimes...
Music - Bach, old David Bowie, many 19th century composers, Al Green.

Take a walk around the block or up a hillside, or maybe stroll through SFMOMA, then have a coffee and chat.
