I am moving to Southern California for a job offer in Santa Clarita (some time in November/maybe early December). I expect to be living in the Ventura, Oxnard, Ojai areas. I was raised in the Philadelphia area. I am east coast, and if you can relate to what that means, then you're a step ahead. The fake, skin-deep, Hollywood, and pretentious stigmas that I attach to Socal will need to be broken down if I am to believe there are real and genuine people here. I don't have any established friends living in Socal, so can you prove me wrong about Socal?

I put "other relationship," because I'm open to anything really. I'm interested in meeting new and interesting people...making new friends, new connections, learning new things. Being active -- doing fun things. For example, I am a decent alpine skier, but I would be greatly intrigued by someone who would be able to teach me how to tele ski. Or, someone who would be able to show me the finer points of mountain biking or surfing. I just want to have fun and enjoy my time doing something different with people other than my few, close friends, who don't always share my enthusiasm for many outdoor activities.

Having said all that, however, I keep my eye out for a possible relationship. I am looking to find adventure in different ways, and if the right person saunters into my path, well... My approach to relationships is one of "if something happens, then it happens." I don't exactly have specific types. If you're a beautiful person, then it should show through, but I still need that physical attraction as well. I've dated entirely different women (appearance,personality,athleticism) each time. The few things I don't like: egos, fake, snotty & pretentious.

I am easy going with a consistent underlying intensity that may not be easily discernible or maybe misinterpreted. I place that on myself and most will say that they don't feel pressured by me because of it. I am competitive when I choose to be or when challenged. I'm not going to see if I can beat you at checkers 5 straight games, but if you want to go out every weekend for a 50mi bike ride and push it, then let's go.

I grew up playing soccer mostly, but I seem to have a reoccurring foot injury (Lisfranc) that keeps me from playing. Thus, I'm mainly focused right now on triathlon. I love the mental challenge of it more than the physical. For 2009, I completed: Kurt Kinetic 70.3 in early May in VA, Escape from Alcatraz, Philadelphia Olympic Triathlon in June, and lastly Ironman Wisconsin on September 13, 2009. I have goals (haven't planned 2010 yet) that I will achieve, and I train accordingly. I also train accordingly to make time for the different things that I want to do. If that means burning the candle at both ends sometimes, then that's what I do. I like to have my cake and eat it too.

I've lived and worked overseas. I really value hanging out and socializing with people from different backgrounds. I do love to travel, but I think I have realized that I don't need to see the entire world right this very second. I also love food. I like to cook, but I won't claim to be a great chef. I'll take a recipe and run with it and deviate as I wish.

What anyone should most understand about me is that my attitude is about enjoying life. I was previously working endlessly, and felt like my life was a huge river gushing by as I sat on the riverbank. I made a change. I try to live without fear and without care of society's judgements. I'm open to opportunities and possibilities in just about any aspect of life.

I've done the dinner & a movie thing. I've done a spontaneous early evening dash to Atlantic City to throw the dice. I made a bet for a beer as to who would win a 10mi run. Have gone out for drinks. I've gone rock climbing. I've gone dancing and taken a dance class for a first date.

Other ideas I have for a decent first date? Museums. The zoo. MTB ride. Hiking. Fishing. Bowling. Volunteering. Canoeing. Festivals/street parties. A challenge or something new, exciting, interesting or fun.

Ideas I generally don't like for a first date? Running, concerts/live music, road bike rides, picnics, skiing, clubbing, taking your dog to the park and totally obsessing over it, or other scenarios where you make horrible conversation. And, this list isn't to say that I don't like those things -- I am a dog lover -- I just don't like them for a first meeting/date.
