About Me
I'm a good-natured man in search of a kind and intelligent woman, hopefully for the long haul. I'm easy to get along with, not too bad-looking, and have many interests/hobbies to keep life interesting. I'm smart and self-reliant, and have had (and continue to have) an unusual career. I'm healthy in mind and body.

My hobbies include playing tennis (twice a week, rating 4.5), playing piano (jazz and classical), shooting pool, learning Spanish (nearly fluent), carving stones, and occasionally dancing (salsa and ballroom).

My philosophy in life: I don't think the end goal is to "be happy". If that's the goal, then there are happy pills available. But just like the soma in Brave New World, it makes for an empty life. Nor is hedonism the answer. Of course, everyone enjoys laying on the beach and being pampered once in a while, but imagine doing that all the time. It gets old. Rather, I believe that accomplishment is what matters. By which I mean something that's meaningful and honorable (and attainable), and something to be proud of. You are what you do. Monetary reward is nice, but is not the same thing. There are many despicable (yet legal) ways to make a lot of money, which usually involve human or animal suffering somewhere. What one earns should be commensurate to the value of what one does, without doing harm. Here's the kicker: If one does accomplish one's lofty goals, then enduring happiness comes along for the ride.

In relationships, I think it's important to not bank one's happiness on the other person. Too often people believe that if they can just find the perfect lover, then they'll be happy. The end result of such thinking is bitter disappointment (and the end of the relationship, needless to say). Of course, if I'm in love with someone, I want them to be happy and content, but there's only so much I can do.

So with that said, I would love to find a woman who is cheerful and pleasant, and who values affection and intimacy. Our romance would be based on respect, friendship and trust. (Sounds like platitudes, but it's true.)

Please drop me a line if any of the above resounds with you.
