Born and raised in Seattle and currently living in New Mexico, I plan to retire at the end of the year and return to the Northwest to be near my two (adult) children and my mother (who is 90 and still doing well, but who knows...Her mother lived to 95). I am free to relocate where I will when I retire, so I am surveying possible locations in hopes of finding a compatible ( intellectually and physically) companion for the remainder of my life's journey. I have been single for about 15 years now, and miss waking in the morning with someone beside me, having breakfast with that special person and talking over plans for the day, mutual companionship and support.

My work requires a fair amount of travel, mostly within the US, but also to the UK, France, and Russia. I have been going to Moscow almost annually for the past 10 years as technical monitor of a research contract the Moscow Institute of Engineering Physics has with the ISTC. Next year ('010) will be interesting: another tech adviser will have to be found, or a means for me to exit gracefully. I hope to be flyfishing in New Zealand in the Spring.

I am interested in travel (flyfishing New Zealand or Chile, and Northern B.C.; perhaps cycling the south of France). I designed and built the first house I owned (no longer mine, unfortunately) and would find it interesting to build again, perhaps on a couple of acres, so that I could plant a few vines and experiment with winemaking techniques. Other interests are outlined below.

I prefer to get to know you by correspondence first; then telephone. This may take a little time, but should prevent later disappointment; it provides a way to coherently elaborate on all those difficult-to-express expectations we have of a future partner. We can meet after a suitable level of mutual comfort is reached: I can visit your area, or you can visit me, whichever we decide is preferable.

I am not a Democrat; I am not a Republican: I prefer to think for myself. For the same reason, I am not religious, although I find comparative religion an interesting subject for study. "Secular humanist" might describe me.
I am pretty much a minimalist, except when it comes to books, wine, and good tools.
