About Me
In my school years, my main hobby was drawing. As I moved from student to working adult, I found less time and inspiration. For the past ten years the cinema was my main hobby. I saw every movie, read every review and every book on film making I could. My most active current hobby began one summer in my teens. I came across a book that set me on my course. After reading chapters on winemaking, beer brewing, and distillation of spirits, I set out to learn all I could. I spent the years since reading more, experimenting, and touring wineries and breweries. I did very well making small batches of wine and am still known as a home brewer by many former schoolmates. It has turned out to blend well with my academic and career interests as well. I found one of my favorite subjects was studying foreign language. I have studied four, but German is my favorite. I only speak English well, but plan to improve my German enough to fully appreciate two trips I would like to take to Germany. I would like to go to Munich for Oktoberfest, and on a separate trip to several cities to tour various favorite breweries. I also work a great deal with water quality issues in my career. I find the chemistry and microbiology far more fascinating than I ever thought I would. Beer and wine are about ninety percent water, so everything I learn about water I try to apply to my hobby. In the next few years I would like to return to school for a PhD. I am unsure yet what I would most want to study. I love language and linguistics is intriguing, but I was a political science major. I think I do very well at both. I am also leaning more and more towards chemistry or microbiology. I find them interesting now, but did not appreciate them when I actually was in school. Philosophy is in the running as well. So, I am giving myself a few years to figure it out. In the shorter term, my goal is to find my soul mate. I see adulthood having three milestone achievements: career, home, and family I have the first two under control, so now I can now focus on this search. Though I can not say I am well travelled, I am well read. I know the world vicariously. I am reserved and very quiet. This actually works out very well. I sit back, listen, and observe. Most people take this as a sign of intelligence. I hope that when I do speak, I live up to this expectation. I enjoy most types of music. I have an ear for different things at different times. My playlist is a mix of jazz, classic rock, 80's hip hop, world music, punk rock from the 70's and early 80's, and I add some new music once in a while. My car radio is usually tuned to KCRW.
First Date
After being in a relationship of several years, dating is once again new and strange. I feel like a junior high school student just starting out. I enjoy nearly any activity if I have good company. If I plan a first date, it would most likely be dinner and taking advantage of one of LA's many cultural opportunities, a reading, a lecture, or maybe an art show. I have found that most young professionals like myself are very busy. I am very flexible. A quick coffee or nice lunch works for me as a first date could just as well. Who I am with and how we connect is of greater importance to me than where we go or what we do.
