I lost my best friend in my divorce. Above everything I am looking to find that someone who I can confide in, who will be there for social functions, and who gives me that reason to get through my day. I am one of the last living nice guys. I'm honest, and loyal, and I don't play games. To be honest, I have no game, and honesty and loyalty are so much a part of my personality I couldn't change it if I wanted to. I treat women with respect and courtesy, and am self aware enough to know that a lot of the time I could be wrong. :) With all of that said, I am seeking more than just friendship. I am a romantic at heart, and enjoy buying chocolate, flowers, and little things that are special. I've found that paying attention to those little details makes the gift giving experience a wonder process. Coming up with that little thing she mentioned 3 weeks ago over coffee always works out better than tons of dough and no thought.

I would probably do something lame like dinner and a movie to set up a friendly public environment where we could both be comfortable. I like quiet private (the way the seating is arranged) restaurants that allow for lots of time to talk and get to know one another. I know that sounds very cliche, but my experience is that a first date is a time to share, and get to know one another. That's hard to do in a loud, public environment. First dates are generally an ice breaker. The 2nd or 3rd date however, is a different story. I am an excellent cook, and can make almost anything in any style of food (Asian, Mexican, steak, burgers, Italian, etc.) On a 2nd date, I would like to cook for my date (bring food to her place, or have her come to mine). There is something very intimate about cooking for someone else. There is also an exposed quality in preparing a meal for someone, in that you are putting a bit of yourself into the meal, and hoping that both it and you have a good showing. Home cooked meals seem like a thing from another generation, but the opportunity for casual conversation and the time spent together preparing the meal are ideal ways to bond with very little pressure on the situation.
