About Me
You'd think being a writer would render this a relatively simple task, but no…
I moved back to Iowa City not too long back because… well, because I could; my career affords me a great deal of freedom and I came to love this town while in college. I found myself a very cool place right downtown and I couldn't be much happier in most respects.
However, all of my old college friends are long gone, and while I have a lot of friends nearby in the Cedar Rapids area, my work friends are spread out all over the country (the world really), and it would be nice to meet some new people in IC. It seems like everyone I meet in the local scene is either very young, already involved, or both! I guess that's why I'm here.
So a little about myself: I'd say I tread a fine line between 'Renaissance man' and 'everyman'. I've been fortunate in the fact that most things seem to come naturally to me -- academics, athletics, art, music, and so on. That said, the majority of my interests are pretty down to earth. I'm probably more comfortable grabbing a pizza (Giordano's, Lou Malnati's, and Wig & Pen being my favs) or burger (Shorts) than dining at a five-star restaurant, and I'm perfectly happy with a Schlitz. I'm also a football fan and major league tailgating aficionado.
I'd certainly describe myself as witty and intelligent (but who doesn't, right?). You remember that person in college you hated because they never seemed to study but somehow showed up on test day, completed the exam before everyone else, and still set the curve? Yeah, that was me.
I've got a quick and sometimes offbeat sense of humor and mix it up between dry, referential, and, self-depreciating. But honestly, most of the quips that spring to mind will stay locked up there until I become comfortable with you and get a sense of how you'll react (I'll avoid that which completely bothers you yet consistently zero in on everything that only slightly annoys you!).
As far as my job -- I'm a primary editor and columnist for the world's largest motorsports website, as well as a feature writer for a handful of national and international motorcycle racing magazines. I also do occasional PR work for some large international companies.
I picked up a couple degrees at the U of I and went onto the university's law school, where I quickly discovered that not only did I not want to be a lawyer, I didn't want to live a 9-5 existence. One of the best things I've ever done is come to that realization and pursue a career as a freelance sports journalist instead. My career is a brilliant mix of travel, creativity, and free time, and the fact that it pays the bills quite nicely is a welcome bonus.
I'm extremely laid back, always try to consider the viewpoints of others, and never go looking for drama. That doesn't mean I won't tease you or readily engage in good-natured arguments/debates, because I will -- relentlessly and mercilessly -- if I like you, anyway.
Diet and exercise play a pretty big role in my life. I have a rather extensive daily program and lift, run, bike, walk, eat 6 or 7 small meals a day -- all that jazz I could never do if I had a normal job.
My taste in music is pretty eclectic, ranging from progressive rock to jazz fusion to '80s pop and rock and beyond.
So what exactly am I looking for? What's anyone looking for? Someone I can laugh and have fun with. Someone I'm attracted to. It's sounds so simple, but I guess it's fair to say I can be quite picky. I feel that I'm a definite catch and I'm looking for the same.
If you actually made it this far I'm seriously impressed (and perhaps a bit apologetic). And if you're interested, please let me know.
First Date
Probably grab some dinner and have a few drinks and just get to know one another a little bit.
DowntownIC has 2 roses that can be sent.
