About Me
I'm a tall, curly-headed, well-traveled, foodie looking for someone fun to spend time with enjoying the outdoors (hiking & kayaking are my prefered sports, but I also can play tennis and badmitton, sail, bike and horseback ride). I love going to the movies, especially when I haven't read the reviews or seen the preview. I have lived in lots of places around the world, but have spent the last 16 years happily in Chapel Hill. As for hobbies I spend most of my free time making dolls out of corncobs. KIDDING! I do all the usual stuff --read, cook, hike, email friends. When I was a kid I wanted to be a solo pilot like Amelia Earhart but I soon learned that no one flies those cool-looking planes with the open****it anymore and these days I find air travel more something to be avoided than sought after. I'm skipping #3 (what makes you unique) All I can think of is wise-ass answers like "my fingerprints" I like a wide range of music but in varying amounts. For example, I love old time bluegrass, but a couple songs in a month and I'm sated. I mostly listen to pop but also a lot of what itunes tells me is classified as alternative music. My ipod has everyone from John Mayer, Coldplay, Bare Naked Ladies and Greg Laswell to Ingrid Michaelson (loved catching her at the Cat's Cradle a month ago), Tristan Prettyman, Gran Bel Fisher, Django Rhinehart & Almost Blue (last two are jazz). Okay, this is becoming awkward. Now tell me about your hobbies, goals, taste in music, etc.
First Date
This seems like a straight forward question, but really it isn't. A first date is portrayed in books and films as necessarily romantic whereas I see it as filled with uncertainty. So while I have lots of ideas for wonderful third or fourth or fifth dates I tend to be cautious and perhaps a little conservative about a first date.
For a first date I would like to meet over a glass of wine and appetizers or something light in a place like the West End Wine Bar or Spice Street. I know, low committment, easy exit, but I did warn you I'm really cautious about first dates. Even if the guy is perfectly nice and lovely there's a decent chance we simply won't hit it off and this way no one has invested lots of time or money. Is that horrribly negative of me? Sorry, I'm forty-something so I can't pretend to be totally naive and wide-eyed. What about a movie? It might be fun on a first date to meet for a glass of wine and then go to an early movie....? For a fourth or fifth date I think it might be fun to drive down to Wilmington for the day or go to the Nasher, eat at their cafe and then go for a walk in Duke Forest. But that's not a good first date scenario in my mind.
