i'm a writer, journalist, editor, and I deal in culture, entertainment, fashion and design. I do some design as well, and have something of an on-camera tv career too. I grew up in NY and have a very NY/Euro mentality, but live in LA. I'm working on a novel and some other book projects, and prefer people in my life to be super smart, interested in culture, books, ideas, spirituality - but no L.A. cliche's, thanks. A healthy dose of irony and edge is a must. I have a dark side - which I'm very very proud of. And I sure don't look like your usual L.A. woman. People often think I just got off the plane from Paris or Milan. Wish I had. But that's another story. I guess I'm probably a 40-something Zooey Deschenel - with a little Franny and Zooey thrown in.
I used to be a rock critic in another life, and love all kinds of music BUT country (yuck). Love Beck, Wilco, The Beatles, all the great indie stuff, but also Led Zeppelin, Lou Reed, The Clash, Talking Heads - and have a thing about bands from Scotland. I also love classical music, jazz, opera, and music from India and France. Anything trancey is welcome.

The best first date for me is one in which me and the guy sitting opposite me can have a laugh and a genius conversation that goes all across the map - all at the same time. I don't think movies or concerts are best for a first date. And that LA cliche of walking on the beach makes me puke. It's about great wine, a cool environment that plays great music - or just inoffensive music - and great conversation. Wherever we are would NOT be filled with 20 something singles trying to have sex with someone to get near their wallet. We'd probably both like food on the lighter side, but food on the first date shouldn't be a big issue.
I like bars and restaurants in Hollywood, WeHo, Venice, Santa Monica.
