My friends say I am creative and witty. I try to be honest and responsible. I care deeply about people and about the future of the world, and I admire others who are kind and thoughtful. I am a nonconformist, but not a rebel. I like to play with social norms and expectations. Young people call me "weird." Adults say "unusual."

I teach for a living and because I want to help others. I love teaching, but sometimes I dislike like the job. I once took an extensive career survey on the internet which listed "teacher" as my number two suggested career. "Artist" was first. I agree. I express myself and my ideas in nearly everything I do. This includes photography, words, humor, painting, makeup, costumes, and, starting last year, open-air improvisational acting at Renaissance and pirate events. I am attracted to people who create, such as musicians and artists. However, I am also shy around them because I am aware that most know far more about their medium than I know. I work in a variety of mediums, but I am a master of none, excepting perhaps teaching. Even there, I have much room for improvement.

I enjoy a wide variety of music, but my collection is centered around classic rock. I enjoy live music, but I prefer seeing a good local band over seeing most national acts. I play with guitars and hand drums, but I am not a musician. I play Donkey Konga with my students!

I have enjoyed traveling within the United States. I have driven through and to destinations within many states, staying with friends or camping in such areas as New York City, Durango, CO, Arches National Park, Carlsbad Caverns NP, Austin, TX, and Asheville, NC. I was born in eastern Ohio and lived many years in Columbus, OH before moving to Florida to teach. I will probably move again someday, perhaps to somewhere in the United Kingdom. I would like to travel to Europe, to visit India, and to see some of the wonders of the rest of this planet. Thus far, other things have been higher priorities. So, I have yet to leave the States.

I have been horribly romantic, waiting for the right one to come along and be my soulmate. This profile, along with changes to my social activity, is my way of being more proactive about meeting someone - someone who could be a companion, a muse, a lover and a creative partner. In the meantime, I hope to make many friends.

I could enjoy a great variety of activities for a first date. However, I think movies, concerts, and theater are less than ideal because there is little opportunity for conversation. A casual meal in a locally-owned place with character and delicious food would be pleasant, more so if they serve a quality ale.
