About Me
As almost everyone looks at photos first, two were taken on 5th November 2009, and - yes, ladies - I do have a pony tail, at least for now. The funny coloured one (due to flourescent lighting in my laboratory for which I failed to correct) was taken 3 or 4 years back and simply proves I am keeping my age and that I can be serious.
I am a medical scientist (two earned Doctorates and ex-Harvard Professor) with an established career and my own private biotechnology business. I am in the process of divorce and have lived the last 5 years alone. I have no intention to retire - although I do wish to travel extensively with a companion/wife (parts of Africa, India, and perhaps China being high on the wish list). Fishing and golfing are two passtimes about which I know little and about which I am willing to learn. My longer term goal is to remarry for life, and I am perfectly open to adding more children to my collection.
Trust is the most sweet, fragile, and valuable of gifts between two individuals, and it brooks no abuse - I admit I have now learned this well and from experience.
I accept the community value of organised religion. I am certain my own God exists - in fact I can not conceive a purpose for life without the existance of God.
I am looking for an intelligent, honest, and attractive female companion who shares some of my interests and possesses a strong sense of humour (dealing with me, humour is not so much an attribute as a necessity). I am British and proud of it, perfectly presentable for my age. I can be taken anywhere, and sometimes have been - from up and down the garden path to Buckingham Palace to meet the Queen.
When I am "in love" I am a passionate lover, and then I come complete with flowers, new and original poems, and a memory for anniversaries. In addition, I did not read all those advanced medical anatomy, physiology, and neurology texts just to discover the explanation for my own "funny-bone", but also to discover the full functions of yours. I long ago stopped adding to my own scoreboard, so you will be delighted to hear that games are out (and yes, ladies, some of you do play them).
I really am fairly fit, but not big into team sports chasing any shape or size of ball. I have, however, boxed extensively and I am a Shotokan Black-Belt - as no damage shows you may conclude my reflexes are a little faster than average. That is nice for ladies who like to feel protected by their man. I also know on which side to walk when escorting a lady and which fork to use for my salad. I am definitely an animal lover (my company is Veterinary Medicine and vaccines oreintated) and I do walk dogs - especially big ones. If you have a pet and should I meet it, you will discover it will rapidly trust me. For TV, and when I have time to watch, I'll go for CNN and BBC news, The History Channel, and PBS ..... or for a good movie where people wear decent clothes, speak using words of more than one syllable, and where not too much stuff gets blown up.
I do believe most people of all nations and races are basically good, and that a few assorted ones of each nationality are definitely not. I also believe that the World outside the 48 contiguous States of America exists, and that important things happen out there too. I like children and respect their intelligence, this extends to a belief that kids enjoy the challenges of formal schooling from somewhere in their fourth year of life. My hero is Winston Churchill, as much for his unique wit as for his leadership. I also believe President Obama is learning to become a true statesman and that Hilary Clinton is simply an awsome intellect and fine person.
I am a little shy of meeting women (I presume this springs from attending all boys schools), although otherwise I fairly confident and disarmingly honest, partly because if I lie I then promtly forget what it is I have just falsely claimed. As I am proud of my behaviour these days I am happy to own it - I wish I could claim such for my entire adult life, but unfortunately I am unable ... c'est la vie!
Sensible distance (including flying) seems no great object to meeting someone new and exciting. In the longer term I am not committed to the Sacramento area as many much more attractive locations exist. While some problems accompany relocating my small company, it is actually my ambition to find a more desirable location now that the world is adequately served by the internet and by FedEx. I have spent 22 years in cancer research and I smoke - I enjoy it. These days my research centers around AIDS and also animal viruses with the potential to infect humans. I stiil actively publish research, and my latest contribution appeared in November 2009 in The Proceedings of the National Academy (US) and concerns a novel approach for a successful AIDS vaccine. I chose not to drink, but I am perfectly happy when others around me do. I loath cell-phones and refuse to carry one. I figure the whole of life is a learning experience, so by the time one knows enough to enjoy it time is becoming limited - I have every intention of enjoying the rest of mine to the full.
Those who read this - and fail to detect a gentle, kind, and generous nature - are in error as my few close friends and my grown kids will attest. It is just I share my empathy with live people, and perhaps not well with this somewhat shameless advertisement. Those who might read embarrassment in me putting myself "out there" with this contribution are most certainly entitled, and I do appreciate their empathy.
First Date
I hope to get to know a new and delightful woman by communications over e-mail and perhaps phone conversations first (I type as fast as I think, which helps). Such exchanges will obviously result in a mutually acceptable itinery.
