| | A few years ago I got into boats and sailing. Someday I would like to take my boat offshore for some warm water cruising. There is nothing like dropping anchor in a beautiful warm bay and then jumping into the water to cool off. I'm interested in people who are passionate about something. People who are passionately interested in something are facinating. I enjoy talking with people about thier intrests. There is so much to learn.
I used to do production work in the entertainment industry. It was exciting and challenging. It was project based, so there was always a finish-line up ahead. It was also very team oriented. Everyone did thier part, brought their creative energy to the project. It was also high-stress work. The artistic goals always surpassed the human and material resources. With every sucess, the artistic vision would become more grand and elaborate. Eventually, my whole life seemed to be filled up with achieving other people's goals. I loved the shows and working with the designers and craftspeople who realized them, but I had become a one trick pony.
It was after I left the biz and started working on boats that I realized how narrow my life had been. Now, work is just work, a chance to develop some new skills and support this new living thing. The goals I pursue are my goals. Time spent with friends and generally having a good time is what is driving my life these days. |
