About Me
I'm a happy and secure person (with a cynical side) looking to date and have fun with other like-minded people.
I can be found at a coffee shop most weeknights, sipping on a chai latte and reading for class. The weekends are full of shows downtown. My favorite bars are in the Red River and East 6th areas. I really look forward to graduating, meaning that I'll have more time to read. Favorite authors include Murakami, Zadie Smith, Jeanette Winterson, Edith Wharton, Gabriel Garcia Marquez, Jhumpa Lahiri, Roald Dahl, Oscar Wilde...
Grocery shopping, domestically enough, is one of my favorite activities. While Whole Foods is a wee bit expensive (!), going there always puts me in a good mood. If I'm not cooking for myself (oh, the joys of living alone!), there's a good chance I'm grabbing green curry from a Thai takeout place to curl up with a cheesy movie or having Mexican food with friends. Living alone also means that I'm often found singing terribly off-key and dancing around the apartment with music blasting at any time of day or night.
My biggest vice is probably the internet. I spend faaar too much time playing around when I should be working. That said, I always accomplish what I set out to do, regardless of the procrastination that precedes achieving that goal. Speaking of procrastination, lazy Sundays filled with little more than brunch, languid naps on the couch with a down comforter, and maybe some light reading and yoga are among my favorite things. I rarely have them these days (hello, school), but I look forward to their return.
As far as dating goes, I'm most interested in guys who know what they want in their lives. Direction and drive are very sexy. I'd also like to find someone who will push me a to be a bit more adventurous. While not a homebody, I do get into ruts in terms of places I like to go. I'd love to date someone who legitimately wants to try new restaurants, sports, museums, and not just talk about them. The most important qualities in a potential match? He should have strong sense of self and direction, an appreciation for learning, intense intellectual curiosity, compassion for others, and the ability to laugh at himself. While I can be serious and academic when the time is right, I'm usually just a bit goofy. Humor and a sense of joy are what I most appreciate in other people.
First Date
A great date could be anything from the traditional movie route to something silly and childlike like putt-putt golf to wandering around downtown, checking out new gallery openings and shops. The important thing is the company, right?
