Hello and welcome to my profile.
I like to fancy myself as an adventurous citizen of the world who is eager to explore and learn. I strive to live life with a healthy sense of humor and by the Golden Rule i.e. treat others as you want them to treat you. I am a vegetarian who tolerates carnivores but abhors cruel treatment of any living creatures. I am a passionate defender of the environment, animal welfare, and a living wage for all people. Now that I have established myself as an animal loving tree hugging pacifist, you would be right to guess that I am a far left progressive liberal who chooses to stand up for the little people who cannot stand up for themselves. I refuse to follow the human sheep that vote for the Republican and Democratic politicians who are in the pocket of the greedy corporations that are running and ruining our society. Instead, I have chosen to separate myself from the electoral herd in order to campaign and vote for Ralph Nader in the past four presidential elections. The radical changes that need to be implemented for the improvement of our society will never occur unless all working class people and progressive people unite and exercise their power in the voting booth.
I believe that the "war on drugs" is a catastrophic failure which has resulted in our inner cities becoming war zones and our jails filling up with non-violent drug offenders. Caveat: I do not use drugs nor advocate their use but I do not consider drug consumption to be criminal behavior if it is unaccompanied by violence. Drug addiction is a mental health issue and should be treated as such through rehabilitation and counseling NOT incarceration. Only when all drugs will be decriminalized and regulated and taxed like alcohol and tobacco, will we see a drop in drug abuse and violent crime. That is because once a product becomes a supermarket commodity, it loses its appeal as a "forbidden fruit" and criminal organizations cease to exist because they no longer have a product to traffic in.
REMINDER TO ALL BOATERS IN FLORIDA : SLOW DOWN FOR THE MANATEES
Some of my future plans include circumnavigating the globe in a hot air balloon, canoeing down the length of the Amazon River, hiking the length of the Pacific Crest trail, trekking the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu, skiing down Tuckerman's Ravine, paragliding over the cliffs of Rio de Janeiro, white water rafting the Rio Pacuare in Costa Rica, and climbing the summits of the highest peaks on all seven continents. I am seeking a partner in crime for all these wonderful projects. If you're not an adrenaline junkie, that is quite alright, as I am more than willing to limit myself to one project at a time and make a few adjustments to accomodate slower paced individuals.

Please don't form the impression that I always live life in the fast lane. I occasionally slow down in order to smell the roses. I like to enjoy my quiet time by reading non-fiction works dealing with history or contemporary societal issues. A book that has made a strong impression on me is "Fast Food Nation". The movie based on it (also called "Fast Food Nation") is a good substitute for reading the book if you're short on time. After reading the book or seeing the movie, you'll think twice before ever eating meat again.
Like most people, I enjoy movies. A list of my favorite movies would include but not be limited to the Pianist, the Godfather trilogy, the French Connection, Goodfellas, Casino, Saving Private Ryan, the Thin Red Line, Letters from Iwo Jima, Platoon, Full Metal Jacket, Apocalypse Now Redux, Forrest Gump, the Green Mile, Shawshank Redemption, Carlito's Way, Scarface, Donnie Brasco, American Gangster, Road to Perdition, City of God, Amores Perros, La Ley de Herodes, Tropa de Elite, Waltz with Bashir, Il Postino, Cinema Paradiso, Jean de Florette and its sequel Manon des Sources. The cinephiles among you can can easily tell, from the aforementioned list, that my cinematic predilections are heavily weighted towards war and gangster movies. Those same themes also run in some of my all-time favorite TV shows such as the HBO series "OZ", "Band of Brothers" and "The Wire".
I consider myself a music lover even if I am a failed musician.

I used to play the trumpet. My musical taste is electic and ranges far and wide from Latin American rhythms to Middle Eastern beats to sixties/seventies R&B to Italian pop from the eighties.

For all you bibliophiles out there, I would be more than happy to furnish a list of recommendations upon request. However, if you allow me to give a piece of unsolicited advice on how to best entertain yourself in today's wacky world of foreclosures, should you ever find yourself evicted and plundered of all your electronic gadgets and toys, I would highly recommend a reading of Norman Mailer's "The Naked and the Dead". In my humble opinion, this masterpiece is the greatest American novel of the twentieth century. "The Grapes of Wrath" by John Steinbeck is another literary classic that deserves reading. Both these books provoke deep thoughts and emotions and are far more entertaining and illuminating than nearly anything found today on television... better known as... America's greatest cultural wasteland.
The best date always results from a spontaneous, spur of the moment decision. There is no specific formula for first dates or subsequent dates for that matter. For instance, on a rainy day, I could entertain you by manning both sides of a ping-pong table while I play a match of ping-pong against myself. On the other hand, on a sunny day, I could entertain you by juggling tennis balls while I am riding a unicycle on the beach. We'll just have to see what the weather is like before choosing an activity. Scrabble or chess, anyone?
The most important element of the activity would not be its intrinsic entertainment value, but rather its affording us an opportunity to get to know each other in a relaxed and stress-free environment. I am ready to try your favorite activity at least once as long as it doesn't include hunting or fishing or any other similar genocidal activity towards our fellow living creatures. Essentially, I am seeking a down to earth lady who enjoys nature and values the spiritual over the material. I don't want to sound immodest, but I am told that I am an exceptional conversationalist and funnyman extraordinaire. However, I would rather you be the judge, so don't be shy to make the first move. Please go ahead and feel free to contact me whether it be to make a comment on my underwhelming profile or to ask me any questions about myself or anything else that strikes your fancy.
