Hello, it would be good to get to know a kind, intelligent man to chat to initially and then to meet if we get on really well. Ideally, he would be local. It would be great to have someone to share things with and go out with. I would like to meet a man who would value a genuine relationship and would make it a priority.

If you like music or art, we would have lots to talk about. The kind of man I'd get on with best with would be bright and creative. He would also be a caring and accepting person. As for me, I think I'm a kind and friendly person and people seem to find me easy to talk to.

My interests are varied but include painting, writing and music. I like many kinds of music, especially guitar. I play guitar, mainly to relax and for my own interest, though occasionally I play at folk sessions. I love to hear live music and enjoy going to live music events.

I'm an unconventional thinker, not interested in fitted kitchens, flash cars or the latest fashion - to me, these are just background noise to what really matters in life. I'm interested in mystical ideas and psychology, having studied the history of ideas in the past at uni. I also like handicrafts and have made quite a few clothes. A few years ago, I did a hairdressing course which I really enjoyed. I enjoy practicing when I get willing volunteers! Most of them seem happy with the result and have actually come back for more, which is probably the true test. I've worked with scientists and follow developments in research. I'm also keen on writing and do some publishing-related work. It would be nice to meet someone with similar interests or even totally different ones: there is always something new to learn.

Like most people, I'd like to travel. There are a few places that really appeal - our own beautiful countryside, especially wilderness (I come from the east Lancashire dales and like to go back regularly), Paris, Marrakesh, USA, Ireland, Italy, art galleries around the world. I'd love to travel on the Orient Express to Venice or maybe even the orient (wherever that is!).

You probably ought to know that I'm a night owl. If you like to be up with the birds and have all your work done by 10am, that's not a problem, but you'd need to be happy pottering alone early on. I like a relaxed lifestyle: I'd rather be spontaneous than plan everything meticulously. I'm a bit dreamy and tend to do things when it feels right rather than according to a timetable.

Most of the time I have a veggie diet. It stands to reason that I would not be compatible with a hunter or fisherman.

I have two teenage children, one of whom lives with me. I have been separated for six years and I am in the process of an amicable divorce.
