I am a hiker and have a deep spiritual connection with the forest and animals, I spent this last summer getting wild squirrels to take peanuts from my hand. I gained the trust of a few enough that I could pet them like dogs. I believe we are all connected to everything and if we do not give back to the Earth, She will take it back from us.
