About Me
I've had a recent change of heart. I am still ready to jump into substitute situations, but I continue to seek out full-time teaching positions. However, I am also looking into higher education options, as well as getting back into community radio, which I really love. Additionally, it is time for me to start writing again, about all those strange and wonderful experiences that have molded me into the person I am today. (Gee, that sounded cheesy. However, the "war stories" are more interesting than that, or at least better written.) The death of Frank McCourt reminds me that 1) Life is short, and 2) It is perfectly normal to have freakish experiences whilst substituting.
Yes, I am a "Guest Teacher" in local school districts. This includes mostly high school and middle school assignments, but I'll take all-ages when it comes to music and library assignments. I taught U.S. Government, and really enjoyed it. Ask me about landmark Supreme Court cases now!
Instead of expressing my mid-life crisis with a red Mustang, I went back to school to get a teaching certificate and teach social studies and history in high school. The Mustang would have been cheaper, even with restoration.
For several years I've volunteered at the independent Pickford Cinema, which makes it easier to keep up with independent movies. It's not rocket science, but I like the atmosphere and helping movie patrons, who tend to be pretty cool people.
I've lived in Bellingham for four+ years. I like this area, but with Bellingham awash in teachers, this may change.
One should not get attached to material possessions, but sometimes I do anyway. Having a decent bicycle makes me happy; I get on my bike and explore the area.
I would like to get back into Community Radio, either here or down in Seattle again. It's good to be involved with something that worthwhile. There is so much interesting music that I don't even pretend that I can catch up on all of it.
It's difficult to get a sense of another person until you actually meet. Nonetheless, pluses for a woman include a thoughtful mind, a sense of humor and word play, and an appreciation of the wider world, including experience traveling, an appreciation for playing and/or listening to music. I have an eye for brunette/black hair. You have talents and inspirations that both compliment and contrast my own. Above all, it is important that we are able to talk, to carry on conversation, and learn how to communicate with each other. Eventually, two people become comfortable being quiet around each other.
I am comfortable at home but I like to travel. Most recently I lived in Berlin, which is one of the most interesting and ever-changing cities anywhere. Before that I lived in Seattle, and may well do so again. My travels have taken me to Japan, Thailand, Laos(amazing,) Vietnam, England, Switzerland, Paris, and Germany. Also, I have road tripped across the U.S. several times, and seen parts of Canada's beautiful Maritimes (and Magnificent Moncton) plus BC, the Yukon, and Alaska. Nothing like swimming in the warm waters of Prince Edward Island in September. Mmmmm.
I'm not outdoorsy by Pacific NW (SW above the border) standards, but I can be talked into hiking, and maybe back into camping.
Although teaching is demanding, it's good to take time off for other things such as getting together with friends and meeting new people.
If you think we have something to talk about, I'd like to hear from you
First Date
Getting-to-know-you can happen over coffee, tea, or walking around a Lake. I'd try something different, such as go-cart racing, a play, or other artistic events.
The first "date" may involve food, that universal bond. We'll pick something we both like and have a field day! I enjoy Japanese, Thai, and other Southeast Asian cuisine. Of course good Indian food is always welcome, as is Afghan, North African, and Mediterranean. Then again, fresh Mexican food can be wonderful. I'm picky about Italian; however, anything prepared by Brad at the Swingside in Fremont, Seattle works for me.
