Ok, I should put in this update: I changed what I am looking for from "dating" to "long term"...but in all honesty; I am looking for both; dating, and if it leads to long term, then great, if not, well, we both practiced the awkward first date so we can ace the next one!

I also have to say that despite being on POF for a while, I'm still unsure of the proper etiquette for online dating. I mean, I may send a very nice, thoughtful, respectful and substantial email to someone interesting, only to be told: "I like tall guys, you're not tall sorry".

Yet, if I just mean to say hello to someone, or writing in with a question to see if I'm compatible, I'm afraid to come across as not wanting to put in any effort...a real conundrum. If someone has a tip to offer...I welcome the input.

I'm a french Canadian, so I can switch from loud and cheerful when I'm enjoying myself with friends to being reserved and quiet. I have absolutely no problem going to great lengths to make someone smile; even if its at my own expense.

I love laughter, and I must admit, mine is a loud one, beware!

I'm a double major at UBC in political science and philosophy with very little left to go to get my degree. If all goes well, I'll be done this coming December. I can chat about something totally silly then go back to discussing whether or not we're in the matrix or the state of world affairs.

Music is my first love and my cd collection is well over 500 cd's and growing. It is relatively diversified and I may go from listening to some Metallica, to Elton John, to Pantera, to Loreena McKinnitt and then may go back to Slayer or some Fleetwood Mac!

Having said that; heavy metal/hard rock is my first love and I will always go back to it in the end. Yes, Metallica is the best band in the world...thanks for asking ;-P

I love going to concerts and the list of acts I've seen is quite exhaustive. I'm not a fan of all types of music though and I know nothing of jazz,and I absolutely despise any "flavor of the month" who needs to get naked in order to sell cd's!!

I try to avoid talking politics (apparently in the top ten of what women don't like to talk about according to the POF summary when one emails someone) to others for I realize most people find it boring, however I do slip up sometimes. I promise to stop within 5 minutes (or as soon as I see you stifle your first yawn).

I love learning especially from people of different backgrounds than mine and have been exposed to different cultures, different ways of thinking.

I'm honest (is there anyone who ever write they aren't???), compassionate, and a good listener and very loyal and will go to great lengths to help my friends and family. I love sarcasm, I can dish it, and take it! I think its an under-rated art form.

I'm a fun guy and I come across as not shy at all but I can be on the first meeting; So I guess I am an extroverted introvert! How's that?!?!

Anyways, that's it for now...I figured I'm not going to do the "laundry list of requirements" for gals cuz what I want is mostly personality and a sense of humour. I know I want someone who is intelligent, unafraid to call me out when I'm wrong, someone challenging, whom I'll learn tons from. I like assertive women a lot; no doormat. Someone who would like to travel when I'm done school (Peru anyone or perhaps Cambodia/Vietnam all backpacking, no hotels). I get along better with people who are center in their politics.

Maybe someone who would enjoy eating new ethnic food? Someone with whom I could watch a super good hollywood movie followed by a foreign film with and or a documentary, share some laughs, go play pool or simply just hang out. A gal who would push me to go do my running and sit-ups on those days where I really don't want to! lol

Body wise I have a weakness for high cheekbones,a genuine smile (with dimples) and no-makeup.
