 About Me
Being a rara avis, I could hardly place myself in a fish category. Though to be honest, rare bird was as close as I could come to the idea of a strange duck.

Also, each of the multiple choice categories of smoking, drinking and drugging requires an essay answer in order to parse all the different categories I would fit into and out of. I would be happy to share if you are curious enough to ask. But you will need to ask because the mail filters prevent anyone with "Prefer not to say" from writing just as if one had stated "Yes" on the questions of smoking, drugs and drinking.

Just trying to update my profile again and it appears that "Prefer not to say" is no longer an option on drugs and smoking. Therefore I am putting a qualified no. I do take various over the counter drugs like aspirin and ibuprofin, and I believe it is ridiculous to criminalize pot even though I don't have a reason to partake any more. As far as smoking, I still have my pipe and a stash of aromatic tobacco that I reserve the right to smoke, but I haven't lit it up for at least the last five years. I was never an addicted smoker, but I enjoyed the nicotine when attempting to write, something that I have not had the motivation to address for some time.

Now I'm just here for the forums, hoping to find those rare kindred spirits. Hope to see you there.

My personality is best described as: Argumentative, Artistic, Earthy, Easygoing/Flexible/Open-Minded, Eccentric, Friendly/Kind, Humorous/Witty, Intellectual, Low Maintenance, Practical, Procrastinator, Quiet/Shy, Self Confident, Serious/Responsible, Simple, Sophisticated/Worldly, Unconventional/Free-Spirited.

Time to update a little... it seems a lot of my leisure time has been reading the forums here, but now I'm looking at other venues. (BTW, just say no to those animated emoticons! They're really disturbing)

Recent books that I've read: Khaled Hosseini's "Kite Runner", "Leaving Mother Lake: A Girlhood at the Edge of the World" by Yang Erche Namu, "The Copper Beech" by Mauve Binchy, "The God of War" by Marisa Silver, "The Dog of the South" (ack!) by Charles Portis, "Three Cups of Tea..." by Greg Mortenson, "The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao" (liked it and hated it) by Junot Diaz, "The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society" by Mary Ann Shaffer and Annie Barrows (great historical fiction), Tim Weiner's "Legacy of Ashes"... a must read for every US citizen.
I enjoy puzzles and things that bend the mind into new and interesting ways, be it people, places or things. My usual fare in books used to be Brian Greene's "The Fabric of the Cosmos" or "The Elegant Universe". Daniel Dennett is another favorite author. And Julian Jaynes. Favorite books include Herman Hesse's Siddhartha and Paulo Coelho's The Alchemist. I'm working on expanding my horizons a bit.

In the interest of helping the few people who wish to see what I have to say in the forums, here is the history link to my forum posts:

 First Date
Willing to buy a dinner and have an enjoyable discussion for anyone who piques my curiosity in regards to interests, beliefs or work. After studying the current zeitgeist of the forums for over a year, I have little expectation beyond that.
