About Me
Rara avis in terris, nigroque simillima cygno
Like most of us, once we get to a certain part of our lives, work seems to command a fair portion of our time. Being self employed, I am no stranger to long hours, the phone ringing at the most inopportune time. However I am somewhat able to schedule most of my work around me, instead of me around my work. Yes I still have to work, some times when I would rather be hiking, fishing, or enjoying a good conversation. Unfortunately I haven’t found a way to make my hobbies pay the bills yet. One of these days, if I keep my toes crossed just right, perhaps.
When able to avoid work, I can be found, somewhere out there, hiking, canoing, camping or fishing, really just anywhere out there. Didn't some one famous one say "Have quad will travel" if not, well they should have.
Some of my most enjoyable moments are those spent, with a few friends, exploring one of the many mountain lakes and back country trails that abound our great land. There are so much available to us, that we can take an afternoon drive to visit one, or spend several hours/days trekking just to say we, were there, and what a sight it was. Best not forget the camera, just too much to see, and you will never remember it all. If the time isn’t there to allow for such a journey, there is always the bike, I think I can still peddle. God knows I should more often, that’s for sure.
There are many things I would love to try, do, and hopefully enjoy. Kayaking, being the front runner. There is nothing like the quiet solitude, found on a distant beach, were the only voice you hear, are those that venture with you.
I enjoy reading, mostly factual books, local and Canadian history. Wildlife, outdoor stories, and ever once in a while, something like Narnia, will catch my attention. An extremely enjoyable series it was BTW, better the 3rd time around too.
Though I have no children, I cherish the moments spent with my nieces and nephews, as I do that time spent with all my family members, and friends. As the nieces and nephews grow older, it becomes increasing more difficult to find the time, when they are not involved, with things, young teen agers do, to spend with me. Kinda sucky, but I am sure they will get over it.
First Date
It doesn't involve a chain restaurant, a roller coaster or a movie. It may involve eating, excitement or entertainment. It definitely involves me, you and a long, drawn-out moment where we don't want to say good night.
