About Me
I've been all over the place. As of September 2009, I am here. I can't think of a better city to settle down in than New York.
For lack of a better idea of how to provide a "self-summary", I'll just describe how I've spent the past several years.
I was born on Long Island. My family moved to South Florida when I was 4.
At the age of 20, I upon graduating with a BS in Computer Science from Georgia Tech, I went to visit relatives in Texas. I couldn't return to Florida because Hurricane Wilma shut down the power-grid and airports for a week. That's how I ended up taking my first post-college job in El Paso, more than 10 hours from my relatives (Texas is big).
Feeling lonely and unhappy spending every weekend as an awkward tag-along of friends clubbing over the border in Mexico, I went to a Humane Society shelter with the intention of continuing my volunteer work. Instead, I left with a 1.5-year-old mutt who I named Madison.
Previously I had volunteered for two years as a tutor for an evangelical church in inner-city Atlanta. It was a strange environment for a nice Jewish boy (if I may so call myself) but I'm grateful for the experience.
After a year in Texas, I returned to Florida to begin a new job writing software for digital film post production (special effects.) This afforded me the opportunity to visit several entertainment hubs including Bollywood (in India), London, and Singapore. I loved my job and co-workers and planned on staying in Florida... so much so that I bought a home there when I was 21. Alas, after 3 years, corporate mismanagement destroyed the company. Less than a month after I resigned, everyone was laid off.
Unable to find an appealing job in Florida, I rented out my place and came to New York to work in the financial sector to begin anew yet again.
I play softball, poker, and chess. I'm learning piano and Portuguese (currently at a near-intermediate level with each).
My tastes in entertainment say a lot about me:
books: 1984, Age of Reason, Animal Farm, Contact, The C Programming Language, The Fountainhead, The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, The Hobbit, The Lord of the Rings, The Silmarillion
movies: Casablanca, Lawrence of Arabia, Pride of the Yankees, Spartacus, Spaceballs, Star Wars, The Great Escape, The Producers
music: anything that isn't loud/screaming
food: Italian, Kosher/Deli
TV shows: Curb Your Enthusiasm, Firefly, Hogan's Heroes, South Park, Star Trek
