About Me
...but who wants to live in a box?
I am an intelligent creative SBF, 45, living in Chicago. Professionally employed. Casual musician (violin, mandolin and singing). I enjoy playing music with friends and at informal jam sessions.
I also enjoy writing about things that happen to me or that I notice. Several years ago, I interviewed some local artists and wrote three articles about them that were published in a community newspaper. My job involves a fair amount of writing as well.
In addition to full-time work, I became the condo president in 2002. Since no one else has been willing to share these duties, I have been continuously and single-handedly working to maintain and improve the building.
Some of my hobbies include learning new things from visiting museums, watching public television and National Public Radio (NPR). My friends are diverse, including people of different cultures and lifestyles.
I am more spiritual than religious: While I do not consider myself to be a Christian, I nonetheless aspire to be the best person I can and treat others with honesty and respect. Everyone is a work in progress, however. We can always find better ways to do improve things or see a new perspective.
I also love being out in nature. Last fall, I rallied some friends to go out and walk the 11 miles of the Richardson's Corn Maze - The World's Largest Corn Maze. This took four hours. Then we made s'mores over an open bonfire. We all had a great time and hope to do it again!
I seek a friendship first that leads to a loving relationship based upon attraction and common interests. Intriguing to me are men who are creative in some way (musical or artistic or something else). It's also important that you are motionally mature and financially stable. Like me, you have varied interests, and seek someone who's open to going new places. I like someone who's more of a public television and NPR fan than a sports fan. You are not politically or religiously conservative.
Having and driving a car is important, because my job involves a lot of driving already, sometimes several hours in a day. (I'm certainly willing to share the driving.)
Some of my favorite tv shows are "Cold Case," "60 Minutes," "Frontline" and other shows where you can learn something. But I enjoy lighthearted shows also. Favorite foods are Chinese, Thai, and Italian. Music includes old school, Motown, rock, pop, world, latin and country/bluegrass. Whatever the mood calls for: Sometimes I'm in the car and crank up the stereo to an AC/DC or Led Zeppelin song!

First Date
I don't really consider a first meeting to be a "date." It's more of a "meet and greet." So generally that would be something like a diner or coffee shop where we can just chat in person. No pressure.
