First dates are like job interviews sometimes. Each of you is evaluating the other and deciding if you want to see that person again. I think it's best to make that first date as stress-free as possible, in a neutral, safe place like a coffee shop. I like to have as few expectations as possible, again in the interests of keeping an open mind and reducing tension. On those occasions when I have strayed from that basic guideline, I have regretted it. Live and learn I guess. Sometimes first dates can evolve right into a second date then and there; sometimes first dates are the last date. There is a lot to be said for physical chemistry.
