Keeper Material: I'm not interested in "what you do" careerwise or "what you have" insofar as material things. However, I do well financially and would hope my partner is financially responsible too. I'll be attracted to you if you're the type of person who thinks of others first; you don't define yourself by career only; helps others in anonymity - not expecting anything in return; is kind to animals (especially my dog, Shasta) and children; understands that arguments (not discussions) involving religion, politics and sports are futile and should be avoided; and, has a spiritual compass to guide you through life. I am a "go slow" person, that hopes I do meet the "ONE," where a long term relationship develops. However, I've been around the block enough to know that most expectations, especially unrealistic ones, are premeditated resentments waiting to happen. Therefore, I have indicated I am looking for "friends" and if something else develops, then great. Another way of looking at it is this way, "God laughs when we make plans," thus I try to live my life one day at a time. I dislike doing the internet dating thing, but I realize that dating doesn't happen by mind meld, osmosis, or watching the nightly news in my living room. I was born and raised in the SF bay area and lived in Hawaii . . . I came to Colorado in '97. Also spent a couple of years in Europe. SCUBA diving is a passion of mine, so going to the Caribbean, Mexico, and other tropical places is something I prioritize annually. Soooooo, it probably wont work with us if you are a workaholic. What else? Umm . . . big turn offs are jealousy and control issues, i.e., pretty much a free spirit here. I also am looking for someone who is athletic, in shape, and can keep up with me - if you don't enjoy outdoor and . . . umm, indoor sports, then I am probably not your type.

Here's the bottom line: I can be clownish and joking, but there is also duality in my personality, e.g., I can be quite introspective. If you are looking for someone who is far from perfect; somewhat eccentric; has been a "bad boy" once upon a time; but today recognizes that "a life unexamined, is a life not much worth living (Socrates)," then I want to hear from you.

2009 UPDATE ABOUT ME: I had surgery for a bicep rupture and rotator cuff tendon tear on September 15th and quite frankly, it doesn't look like I will be walking on my hands any time soon (yes, I could do that . . . grin) . . . Fast forward to November 21, I finally started driving again; doing cardio; range of motion exercises; and some very light weight lifting (bicep only). Overall, rehab is going slow, but good ;-)

I Retired early 3 years ago. Consequently, I am quite fortunate financially where I will not have to work again. Today, most of my time is spent doing volunteer work (President Obama's election campaign most recently) and traveling for pleasure. In mid-April, I went to Belize for a SCUBA dive trip. In May, I was in Phoenix to visit friends. In early July, I spent 2 weeks visiting the SF bay area, where I have family and friends. Now I am back home (Mid-August) after going on a month long RV/road trip to Wyoming, Montana, Idaho, Washington and Canada (Banf National Forest in British Columbia where I was injured hiking). Next trip is to the San Francisco bay area during the Christmas holiday.

'Nuff said.

Going to a baseball game, hike, dinner, lunch or anything which is conducive to relaxation and conversation. Going to see a Movie or Play is a non-starter for a first date.

Just an observation . . . I noticed (Oct. 30, 2009) that POF added a "Marriage" button and apparently these are POF single women that are looking to get married immediately . . . Too funny! I thought everyone started with "dating" first? Umm . . . silly me.
