 About Me
Last updated: September 3, 2009 ("current" stuff updated at the end of profile; age updated to reflect birthday.)
Note on picture: I could probably get a picture if you want to see me. (I have a webcam, but I could probably get a picture off of my digital camera.)
Since I work in a public school, I'm hesitant to have a public photo up... a lot of kids know the internet too well, and my kids would never let me hear the end of it if they found me on an internet dating site. Anyhow....

Basics- I'm 28, and I teach high school English. (With the main areas of focus recently being American and World Literature.

I'm into books, and I generally get through at least two a month. I enjoy writing, and my BA concentration was in creative writing.

I enjoy watching movies and films (Who doesn't? Pretty much everything, but I'm not a huge fan of the horror genre), I like anime (and other cartoons) and video games. Music is great. I enjoy most genres. When I'm alone, I tend to fill the "dead air" by singing.

I like philosophy, though the stuff I like best is the weird, post-modern stuff that sometimes goes over my head.

I like politics and current events. I tend to be on the liberal end of the spectrum for most things, though party politics often irk me these days.

I'm sweet, somewhat sarcastic, and have the tendency to joke around a lot. I can be an intellectual, but sometimes it takes the right conversation (or person) to make me express it vocally. I tend to be shy at first, but that goes away as my comfort level grows. While I have a serious side, it's not the one you see most often.

While I tend to be an "indoor" person, I don't mind trying to broaden my horizons, especially in good company. I go indoor climbing twice a week, and I don't think I'd be overly against the idea of trying it outdoor. I recently went kayaking for the first time, and I enjoyed the experience. I like swimming, and I enjoy walking around new places... but when the day is over I like to curl up on the couch and watch a movie or read a book.

I enjoy cooking when I have the time to do it. I tend to experiment in the kitchen, and I like to work on a recipe until I have it where I want it. Also, I tend to cook when stressed, so I sometimes spoil people with random food. Living alone means that I can't possibly eat everything I want myself; I also appreciate a good cup of tea.

I like to dine out at least once a week. I do this even if I have no one to go with. It isn't rare to find me out and about, cozied up in a booth with a novel.

I'm trying to get back into the habit of writing on a regular basis as it seems to have trickled off a bit after I moved down here, though I still get occasional flashes of poetry that I like. I write in my head sometimes. It's kind of silly if you think about it... I used to keep a Dictaphone in the car, but it got lost in one of my moves.

I consider myself a romantic. I like to hold the door, or open the car door. I'm not obnoxious about it, but I find it fun when it isn't demanded.

Now, I suppose I should probably say something about what I'm looking for. While I'm looking for "the one," I don't expect her to drop out of thin air. I'm ok with dating or just being friends... having new people in my life is always nice.

Now for the specifics. This is a bit difficult, as it is hard to intimate. When you really come down to it, I guess I'm looking for someone with a personality that is complimentary to my own. Since it is difficult to convey everything about my day-to-day personality in the profile, we should probably stick to things that are more observable for now. (Though the profile does a fairly decent job in some respects.)

Shared interests would be nice, as would a sense of humor. Some sense of sarcasm would be preferred, if only because it can be very sad to have what is meant to be a playful barb misinterpreted. I'd prefer it if you were a reader. It would be nice, though not necessary, if you weren't overly picky about food. I like experimenting both in cooking and at restaurants. I enjoy a good meal. I'm a carnivore. I'd like someone that either was into some of the "geeky things" listed, or didn't mind that I was into geek culture, though being a "geek girl" isn't a requirement as long as I'm allowed to be me. :-p

Are you still here after all that?! If you got through the whole thing without skimming, I'm impressed. I believe that the whole point of these online things is to have MORE information than we would just randomly meeting. So I hope it was at least illuminating.

Additional information:

Favorite books: (Currently)
High Fidelity by Nick Hornby (Which I view as an instruction manual for men.)
Bridget Jones's Diary by Helen Fielding
The Stars My Destination by Alfred Bester
Anubis Gates by Tim Powers
The Farseer Trilogy by Robin Hobb
There are more... but yeah.

Books I'm currently reading:
Jingo by Terry Pratchett

Current album in my car's CD player is an MP3 mix CD. (I'm still geeking over my new car's ability to play MP3s. Yes, it's totally soooo 8 years ago, but who cares.)

The last movies I watched were "Serentity" and a horrible Japanese zombie movie; the last TV show I watched was an episode of "How I Met Your Mother."

 First Date
I think it'd be fun to go to the DC zoo. Lots of room for conversation, and who doesn't like animals? After the Zoo, if we decide that things are going ok, lunch or dinner would be nice. (Meals are always very personal. As a stand alone on a first date they end up feeling like an interview. If there's no "click" at Zoo it's a far less awkward place to be than alone with a person at a table for two. I figure there's less pressure on us that way.)

I also like the coffee shop/bookstore kind of date... but usually that's a good second date.
