Okay, I guess it's time to update this. I'd had a rough patch earlier in the year after losing both my best friend and my mother just over a month apart, but I feel it's past time where I can use that as an excuse. Neither one of them would want me to wallow. So anyway, I guess I'm saying that I'm planning to be here more regularly than I have been, so I look forward to hearing from you. Now back to my profile, which is already in progress...I was born and raised in SoCal, and except for 10 years in the Air Force moving around the country, I've lived my entire life here. My parents were both from small towns, though, so I grew up with those sensibilities.
My interests are quite varied, but generally center around feeding my head. I enjoy museums and lectures and PBS/Discovery. The first two presets on my car radio are KPCC and KCRW. I'm a geek and I know it. I enjoy all the typical geeky things: computers, tech gadgets, Monty Python, Dr. Demento, Heroes, Lost, Nova. However, I still run Windows on my computer instead of Linux - I'm not *that* big a geek. :)
I enjoy all kinds of music, and have over 6000 tracks on my MP3 player - almost too many to choose from, but great for that little A.D.D. kid that lives in the back of my head. I'm not afraid to dance when the mood strikes me, or sing along with whatever music may be playing in the background, or in my head. I was in a number of singing groups in younger days, and play a little guitar, although not so much in recent years. Despite having complete strangers compliment me on my voice, I've never managed to muster the nerve to put any of that talent on solo display by doing things like karaoke or other kinds of talent shows. Not that I'm a wallflower, either - As you can see from my photos, I'm not afraid to be seen in public with balloons on my head. :)
I've traveled all over the country - I've been from Alaska to Hawaii to Florida to Maine, although I've managed to miss NYC and Washington DC. I've also been to Europe, Mexico, the Caribbean and Australia. In earlier days I loved to jump in the car a go "thataway", to discover new things and people. When I was 29, a friend and I took a 2 week road trip from Fairbanks (where I had been stationed with the USAF) to Los Angeles, totaling 3700 miles, and covering every inch of the AlCan Highway.
I'm looking for someone not too far from my age, who is reasonably fit, reasonably intelligent, with a lot of curiosity, a solid grasp of the English language and the ability to find humor in even mundane things. A certain level of tech/computer savvy is a big plus, as is an affinity for British humor, history, and science/scifi.
I'm really not looking for any kind of long-distance relationship, at least not a romantic one. I've done that before, and it brings with it a whole set of unpleasantries. I'd really prefer to hear from women in the Southern California area, especially if you're in the South Bay. I do believe in someone being "geographically desirable". However, don't let that deter you from contacting me if you just want to chat or be friends. Or if you think I'm especially hot or something. :)
Hey, it could happen!
If you like, you can find me on Face book as Walt Hodgson.
Please note also that my status is "Non-Religious". I was raised Catholic, but as time has gone by the whole concept of a deity has begun seeming more and more...well, insubstantial, I guess. Too many conflicts in the dogma for me. So if you're a very religious person, I'm probably not for you.
If you care, the personality test says I'm an INTJ. I'm not sure that I agree, and I've been told by others that it is wrong. I don't know if that'll help or hurt.

I look forward to hearing from you!
First dates are highly dependent on the vibe that you get from the other person. I've had first dates that ranged from a quick cup of coffee to a high end Italian restaurant. I generally like to keep things simple. I think that however we decide to start the date, it's smart to leave our schedules open so that it doesn't end before we're absolutely ready. There's nothing quite like being surprised by the sunrise.
