About Me
I'm fairly nerdy, to be honest; I enjoy Dungeons and Dragons and run Linux on my laptop. Presumably an ideal match for me would be someone with similar interests, or at least the ability to tolerate such nerdiness. More esoteric interests of mine include graphic design (in particular, typography) and exploring abandoned buildings.
More detail: I'm 6'2", but fairly skinny; I've never been a big fan of exercise, but apparently have a high metabolism or something, since I never seem to gain much weight. Some adjectives one might use to describe me would be intellectual, reserved, and honest. I've often been described as somewhat shy, and tend to prefer hanging out in groups (maybe 4-8 people) such that I don't feel as much pressure to maintain conversation. I try to be very openminded towards other people's views and opinions, unless I view those opinions as being pseudoscientific; I'm a skeptic with regards to things which violate known scientific principles. (Religious claims generally aren't pseudoscientific in my mind unless they explicitly refute known science *coughIntelligentDesigncough*.) I also don't have much interest in sports or celebrities; I view both of these as fairly useless elements of our culture.
I don't tend to have much appreciation for the arts, though discussions with friends have convinced me that "modern art" can be differentiated from meaningless bullshit. (the period is necessary to bypass the obscenity filter) in that modern art can be defined as meaningful bullshit. With regards to music, I'll tend to listen to whatever's playing, though I tend to favor classic rock or humorous/quirky songs if there's a choice. I view the visual and performing arts as probably a necessary and important part of culture, but not something I have any interest in.
As earlier alluded to, I enjoy working with computers, despite being a biology major (all my friends say I should have been CS, but I'm not sure I could have handled the math). I don't usually play that many video games (Knights of the Old Republic being an exception) mainly because I fear I would become addicted; I've lost friends to World of Warcraft and don't want that to happen to me. I'd certainly be interested in picking up video games if I had reason to believe my emotional health wouldn't be compromised, however.
I enjoy reading, especially science fiction and fantasy. I particularly enjoy books with a humorous slant. Thus, Terry Pratchett's Discworld series and the Hitch-Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy are my favorite books. Cyberpunk is also good, with Neil Stephenson and William Gibson leading the pack. Oddly enough, I didn't like either Lord of the Rings or Dune, both classics of their genres.
It may seem that I'm spending way too much time talking about myself and not enough describing what properties an ideal match would have; this is because the most important such property is "attracted to me," and I figured it would be easiest to just give you all the information you need to see if that describes you. Aside from that, I'm looking for a girl I can hang out with having nerdy/intellectual/random conversations; discussions with my friends span across almost every topic I can conceive of, and I'd like a girlfriend with whom I could have similar discussions. Beyond that, similar interests would probably be ideal, though I think it would be best if my girlfriend were a bit more outgoing than me. I'm generally not interested in superficial people (though who would claim to be?), and if your profile includes phrases such as "Looking for Prince Charming" or "Princess seeking Knight in Shining Armor," we'd probably not work out.
First Date
Realistically, a simple dinner-and-a-movie scenario, or maybe meeting for coffee or something. I don't have any really interesting plans, and if you did, I'd like to hear them.
