I love the great outdoors... I cherish my memories of solo bike-touring Puget Sound and the Olympic Peninsula; alpine mountaineering in British Columbia; and hiking Rocky Mountain National Park and the Canyonlands of Utah. I enjoy roadskating, cycling, running, and (of course) anything involving a Frisbee! I’ve traveled in most regions of the USA and also visited Canada, Mexico, and Europe.

In addition to outdoorsy kinds of activities, I also enjoy taking in the arts, visiting family and friends, discussing philosophy and politics, reading and writing for pleasure, and listening to and making music. I’ve been an avid NPR/PRI listener for many years; “Morning Edition” starts my weekdays, and “A Prairie Home Companion” enriches my weekends. I’m generally flexible and easygoing in temperament, though I do have a skeptical streak (think of H. L. Mencken, but without the booze and cigars). I have a knack for coming up with new ideas and creative solutions to various challenges. You might describe me as a “reverent Promethean iconoclast”: reverent of truth, natural beauty, honor, and wholesome tradition; bold and enthusiastic in finding and championing better ways of doing things; scornful of unquestioned dogma and dishonest means of social influence. But I try to avoid taking myself too seriously... life’s too short for that.

My ideal partner would be a very special woman who is self-confident and independent, yet also tenderly affectionate; who is highly athletic and energetic, yet also enjoys relaxing together in peaceful comfort; who has an agile and insightful mind, yet also a warm and empathic heart; who can be both delightfully playful and passionately romantic; who is adept in logical thinking, yet also freely creative; who has a talent for artistic expression (in any form); and whose reach in life exceeds her grasp.

(An affinity for spending the occasional rainy Sunday swimming a deep sea of blankets would also be quite appealing! =)
