About Me
IT HAPPENED TO A FRIEND OF MINE.
It was a great day. The sun was shining, the birds were chirping, the temperature was just right. And everywhere George went, he saw smiling faces. When he got out of his car, the cute blonde looked at him and smiled, then looked away, shyly. When he went to his first class, everyone seemed to be in a good mood. His classmates were all uncharacteristically talkative--the same kids who wouldn't usually give him the time of day. Even his professor was in unusually happy spirits--he would look at students, then smile, and look at the next person.
Walking between classes, George hummed to himself. College was not always this much fun. The dreary hurried walks from one class to another were usually tedious and lonely, with everyone thinking about his or her own problems--each in his or her own little world on campus. Today was different. Students were all smiling and sharing jokes. Shy girls put their hands over their mouths as the laughed and clutched their books in front of themselves. Some people even waved. Two kids gave George the "thumbs up." There were a few peace signs flashed. It was, after all, the season of love and there was more than enough love and joy to go around on that particular Tuesday.
Then George stopped dead in his tracks. He closed his eyes and raised his hand to his forehead--he felt it--and he was mortified. The day had begun with George slouching down the stairs. Near the front door, his 4-year-old brother, "Boob," had a secret to tell him before he headed out the door. When George bent down, Boob stuck a Chiquita® banana sticker on his forehead. Boob laughed. His mom told him to leave it on, it went with his outfit. George smirked and walked out the door. Unfortunately, he didn't remember to take off the sticker until just before lunch.
I like making people laugh, too--but I'd rather have people laugh WITH me. The "raised" Chiquita shot of me is a good way to say that I think my parents did a wonderful job. They struggled financially, but they always made sure we felt loved. We were always supported. We were always encouraged. It pains me when I hear friends say they were not the most important thing in their parents' lives.
People ask if I see the glass as half empty or half full. But I'm more interested in the fact that the glass appears to be there and at the same time, not there. That is, you can see the glass. But you can also see THROUGH the glass. That's more the type of life questions I'm interested in.
What's IN the glass is just a fact, not a value. Besides, seeing things as they are is kinda boring, anyway, don't you think? What else might be?
I would like to find a life-partner/soulmate who brings marvelous ideas to my life. No drama queens, but I would like to meet a comedy queen.
Every day is amazing. Every day is full of humorous observations. Every day is very different from the next. And that's what makes life worth waking up for.
What do you wake up for??
First Date
If you agreed to see me, you would NOT have to wear a sticker. And while I like doing things for a laugh, I wouldn't embarrass you. That would be lots of time for that much later.
We'd probably meet in a public place. Maybe for coffee. After all, a guy can't be too careful these days. . . .
