I'm a really fit Manhattanite (still play basketball three times a week, run, work out, etc.). I make my living as an editor/writer (despite the corny headline), and have a wide variety of interests, both country and city. My primary connection is my family -- two grown children, one d-i-l, and one four year-old g.s., all of whom I adore. I'd like to add one more object of adoration. Like you, I don't want to settle for less than romance. The door can be opened in many ways, but for me, fun is the key that works best; with it, everything else can follow. Without it, I'd just as soon hang out with my dog, who's definitely fun. A man I met in North Africa once told me, "I'd be happy if I woke up every morning with a woman who smiled me." I would, too. And I'd smile back.
Speaking of smiling, for better or worse, the photos are all recent. I have a much better one taken a couple of weeks ago, which I'd be happy to send someone if we make contact, but, because my grandson is also in it, I can't see posting it on the internet at large.

Dating is torture, but there seems to be no way to avoid it en route to trying to connect with someone. So, I'd choose a place for drinks or dinner where we wouldn't have to shout at each other to be heard (not all that easy)and the lighting didn't require you to wear sunscreen. After about ten minutes you can sense whether or not you have an easy rapport (See "fun" above.) When he or she goes to the rest room is an opportunity to ask yourself if you're having a good time. One clue to the answer is if you feel relaxed and open and eager to continue the conversation. Another, heading in the opposite direction, is if your mind wanders to thoughts of laundry or improving your backhand. . . or worse, if your sense of humor deserts you, and a wave of loneliness washes over you.
