About Me
Most of the best things in life are free. Things like a simple but long-held hug, a slow kiss, a look of intimacy, of depth or of gratitude for our being together at all in a relationship that works.
However, one of the most difficult things to find in life is a relationship that works! To do this, both people not only have to first like, then love each other, but also to give freely and willingly of themselves without hesitation, to be "there" for each other. (D'you know what I mean by "being there"?) Also, we simply have to enjoy each other's company. And when those days come when we are irritable because of something outside of our relationship, then we either give comfort or space to the other, depending on our needs.
I left the matrimonial home 15 years ago, and have had many enjoyable dates in that time. Sometimes it's my fault, sometimes hers, but I've never quite hit the jackpot when it comes to finding Ms.Right, the one person in the world who will take me away from this world of dating. That's what, ideally, I want to do now: commit to a woman, whose personality will hold me captive for life. No, I mean it! As it says in the wedding service, "putting aside all others."
I really yearn for that comfortable relationship that works without your even having to "work" at it. I lead an active life, both physically and intellectually, but above all I am a down-to-earth guy who likes the simple life, enjoying the luxury of silence with his partner, as well as enjoying the to-and-fro of conversation. It goes without saying that we would have a relationship that would work both on the vertical and on the horizontal. The latter is as important as good red wine and strong Assam tea to me.
Are you out there? Can we help each other escape the eternal dating round, the feeling of being up for a job interview?
I seek a gentle but passionate woman, who likes travelling, and who cares for herself and the community she lives in. If she can play tennis and appreciate classical music, that's a great bonus, but not essential. The only essential ingredient I seek is a loving and open and honest personality. I am generous and open in my own personality, and can adapt to other people's tastes and preferences in life. Chemistry is important, and usually you can feel it right away, but I think sometimes the chemistry develops only after a little while. So, it could be (and probably will have to be) friends first!
My Welsh upbringing has shaped my thinking, so that I am both very conservative and very liberal, and still trying to figure out how to square that particular circle. I am physically active. I visit the gym more or less daily, but not fanatically.
Naturally, I like "candlelit suppers" and "walking along the beach" - but who doesn't?
First Date
First date? Something simple like walking along the breakwater or meeting for a coffee at somewhere quiet where we can hear each other speak ok. Maybe the Bengal Room in the Empress? Or just an ice cream at the Beacon Hill Drive In. The important thing on a first date is to actually hear each other's potted life histories. So long as they are not potty....
