She sits at the bar nursing her drink, nervous, almost too nervous. She arrived ten minutes early; she wants to see him as he walks through the door. She thinks to herself that she shouldn’t feel this way, she wants to meet someone new, but his e-mail and profile so surprised her that all her presupposed notions of this evening were swept away. His words were mysterious, enigmatic; he was so confident, maybe even a little too confident. When he wrote, “I like to stay as close the edge as I can without going over”, she was intrigued to distraction. She had given up on there being such men in the world, being used to the office clones and business suited nobodies, nothing but shades of gray that inhabit her daily life and fill her inbox with boring drivel. She thinks of the reply he sent to her response, he seemed so vibrant, full of life; he even teased her for a misspelling in a way that made her laugh. She thinks of his pictures, the crystal blue eyes, the big smile, but even his pictures bring questions to her mind that she can’t answer. Her drink is finished, she didn’t even notice, lost in her thoughts, feelings, but the nervousness is starting to dissipate, being replaced with, and she almost doesn’t recognize it, anticipation? It’s been so long since anyone has had this effect on her, she thinks, and finds the feeling delicious…

She hopes he is on time…

She feels something, almost like the atmosphere in the room has changed and looks to the door. He strolls in and she knows, unmistakably, that this is the man that so intrigued her. He crosses the room, eyes never leaving hers, until he reaches her spot at the bar and stands close, looking down at her, so close that she can smell the Marc Jacobs he’s wearing, and flashes her a huge smile. “You’re prettier than the pictures you posted, did you miss me?” he asks. She thinks to herself how could she have missed him, they’ve just met, but a feeling inside tells her yes, yes, she has missed this, these emotions that she has been deprived of for so long...

She thinks to herself that she just might have made the right choice answering his e-mail…

He sits next to her and she is surprised how natural it seems, he teases her, makes her laugh, touches her, within just a few minutes she feels like she has known him forever. “I think we will get along nicely” she says, “I know” he replies with a smirk that makes her heart flutter. “Let’s get out of here” he says, “I know the perfect place where I can spin you silly on the dance floor”. He stands up, lifts her to her feet, slips her soft hand into his strong one, and leads her out the door…

Many hours, days, adventures, kisses, emotions later, she knows she made the right choice…
