I've been a single dad of two kids for years and just became an "empty nester" (daughter off to college). I really enjoyed the "daddy" years but look forward to having more time for myself and future partner. Not having a set daily schedule is wonderful and I don't miss work nearly as much as expected. Still do some consulting to keep my hand in and always open to new adventures.

Doing a lot of little things that just didn't fit well into the old, very busy schedule such as working out at the gym(regularly), hiking (downhill whenever possible), camping and backpacking(but not too much), trout fishing (don't catch many), golf (buy lots of balls), home projects (just an excuse to buy another tool), exploring thrift shops, flea markets, and antique stores (probably donate the stuff back next year), shopping at the farmer's market (what is that thing and I wonder how you cook it?), and reading for fun (mysteries, thrillers, science and historical fiction) instead of tech manuals.

I love to hike through the woods. Visit places I've never been. Try different foods and restaurants. Read a book by someone I never heard of. Do something each week that improves my home (sometimes it's just cleaning something). I'm told I'm a good dancer (after a couple of adult beverages) and that I "clean up" real good. I do still smoke a pipe sometimes when outdoors but could live without it(literally).

My ideal mate is someone I care for so much that I strive to be her ideal mate. She will like herself enough to stay fit and healthy, be assertive, and know her own mind. She knows how to relax and enjoy peace and solitude without being a couch potato, and is OK with spontaneity. She appreciates a live band whether a 3 piece combo, rockers, or a full orchestra.

We might first meet for a coffee at a mall or at a park for a walk. Then what about Fernbank on a Friday night for "Martinis and Imax"?
