About Me
Hi there!
My name is Julien, and I'm a bit of an odd blend. Perhaps the best descriptor is to say that I'm a hacker-geophysisicst-guerrilla artist, and we can go from there.
Job-wise, I work for a tight Research & Development team in a geophysics company. Among the highlights there was the month-long work stint in Argentina, the single-handed development of a system that was rolled out worldwide, and the clubbing of cute furry baby seals.
As for my life, I'm kind of a random artist. I've produced two documentaries, one of which premiered in New York City, and which got me national coverage in the Globe and Mail at home. I've done a number of hacking-related podcasts (Hacker Public Radio, TWAT) and have been a speaker at one of the world's largest hacker conventions (HOPE).
Most recently, I finished writing my book, called "Rice Tea". It's a cyber-thriller, based on my experiences and those of my compatriots in the hacking world. True story I tells ya.
Music is important to me. I have a variety of tastes, exemplified by the following artists which figure on my playlist: Cat Power, Sigur Ros, Miles Davis, Louis Armstrong, Ella Fitzgerald, Yoko Kanno, Radiohead, Underworld, Joe Hisaishi, Stars, The Beatles, Jean Leloup, Cowboys Fringants, Les Colocs, Bob Dylan, Leonard Cohen, k.d. lang, Ray Charles, Pink Floyd, Arcade Fire, The Delgados, Nirvana.
Being up to speed with the world around me is also important. I listen to numerous podcasts, particularly those from CBC - Ideas, Dispatches, At Issue. I get my daily news from Radio Netherlands and have a subscription to The Economist. I read voraciously - it's hard for me to go into Chapters and not buy anything.
So that's me in a nutshell. I live on my own, and I bake as a hobby. I'm absolutely horrible at it, but I enjoy it. Sometimes the pans I cook end up producing new forms of life never before seen on this planet.
Vitals: 5'10, 167 pounds, and bisexual.
First Date
I'm not a fan of the "dinner & a movie" deal. How about we rent a kayak and go down the canal, then finish the day off by going for some nice margaritas. Or, hey, cut our wrists and try to make interesting paintings out of our own blood. Something original and fun.
iSeal has 2 roses that can be sent.
