I keep learning something from every relationship. I tend to be a one-woman person and am looking for a long term relationship, but that will only happen with someone who becomes my best friend. I love to learn and have eclectic tastes. I don't have any particular ideal other than someone with whom I can have an intelligent, honest conversation and a good laugh. Someone who is my equal and a partner is attractive to me. I'm ultimately looking for someone with whom I can build intellectual, emotional, and physical intimacy and with whom I have a compatible spirituality. Part of that is finding someone who believes that a relationship is based upon chemistry between two people and not the material things either of us has. Another part is finding each other at the right point in each of our lives. I know she's out there somewhere...and the eternal optimist in me knows that we'll find each other when the time is right.

One thing I am not is the "bad boy." I know a substantial number of women who want that in a man, and, as I'm not planning to change that part of me, I'm not a good match for them. I am someone who can and will listen, who is supportive and loyal to my partner, and who is flexible on anything but the needs I have in a relationship (see the paragraph above).

Also, you may want to know that I have an elementary school age son who lives with mom but with whom I spend time on a regular basis. Because many people my age have all grown children or no children, this may be an issue for some. Plus it helps explain why I sometimes quote Dr. Seuss or Disney movies and know all the inhabitants of Bikini Bottom.

I like a first date to allow us to talk and get to know each other. It can be meeting for a drink or lunch or dinner, taking a walk on the beach or in a park, cooking dinner together, meeting at the chocolatier, or any activity where our voices can be heard. To me the company is far more important than what we're doing.
