My wife died four years ago and I haven't been very social since, so I don't exactly know what I'm looking for. There needs to be more choices in the "looking for" categories above, but "long term" is pretty much what I would want for anything that was good. It's hard to say, seeing as the best things that have happened to me in my life were things that I wasn't looking for at that time.

I do know that I miss female companionship. I like when someone gets who you are and you don't need to be anything other than yourself, and when that works both ways you can get to some very exciting times. Sometimes all it takes is staying home and being close to have an extraordinary night. Other times some good live music in any one of several local establishments can get things off to a good start.

I was a caregiver to my late wife for several years while multiple sclerosis took her away from me, little by little. We could be close, but I haven't experienced a lot of things, like being hugged back, in quite a while. Fair warning...I have a lot of things to experience now that are going to be more fun for me than your average man.

I have spent the past 15 years of my life trying to help seriously ill and dying patients who find medical marijuana to be of symptomatic relief to them (cherylheart.org), but that is not all there is to me. Google search "jim miller medical marijuana" and I can say no more here.

I have a good sense of humor and I'm pretty laid back when it's appropriate. I like getting out, especially when it involves hearing any one of several good local bands, but there's something to be said about putting a couple of dollars in a juke box and enjoying some good conversataion. Actually, the good conversation is pretty important. Some of the best times from my single life as well as my married life involved staying home and being close. I'm pretty open to new ideas and I like trying new things.

While I may not know what I'm looking for I do know what I like. A woman who smiles with her eyes as well as her mouth can be very seductive. Who doesn't like the company of a well built actractive woman, but that doesn't count for much if she can't express herself. Obvious good qualities don't need to be mentioned. Liking similar things is fun, and liking different things expands your horizons.

A first date? After what, sending messages back and forth followed by phone conversations to get to know each other before we finally "meet"....or going in cold and not knowing much about each other? I guessing the first possibility. In that case I would think it would be best to do anything where we could have a decent conversation...and finally SEE each other. By then I'm sure it wouldn't matter where I would finally get to meet the person who so intrigued me enough to take that step. Coffee shop, the beach, or a park bench...your call.
