About Me
I’ve been living in Kingston for over two years now, and while I’ve settled into a niche and made some pretty good friends here, I’m always happy to make more friends, both for real-life hangouts or for chatting online.
First thing first; I loooove music. Kingston has a really great folk music scene here, and I can often be found hanging out with my friends at local shows. I think there’s something good to be said for just about any genre of music. If checking out new bands is your thing, we’ll probably get along pretty well.
I have a ton of hobbies, which may or may not be directly correlated to having a short attention span. As of lately, I flit back and forth between playing the ukulele, learning yoga, making greeting cards with rubber stamps, making vegan ice cream from scratch, and devouring as many novels as I can until the school year rolls around (at which point, my reading habits will invariably turn to textbooks about bacteria.)
I’m kind of outdoorsy in the sense that I’m happiest when I’m out gardening or hiking. I recently learned how to paddle a canoe and I’m very enthusiastic about this new hobby. If you’d like someone to explore the local trails with you or someone to rent a canoe or kayak with for the afternoon, I'm up for that. :)
I like to do what I can to help others in the community, which is one of the reasons I chose to work in healthcare. Unfortunately, “working in healthcare” often translates to “has an erratic sleep schedule,” but on Sunday mornings if I can make myself wake up early enough, I like to head over to Next Church’s basement and cook a meal with Food Not Bombs. Food Not Bombs, according to Wikipedia, is:
“A loose-knit group of independent collectives, serving free vegan and vegetarian food to others. Food Not Bombs' ideology is that myriad corporate and government priorities are skewed to allow hunger to persist in the midst of abundance. To demonstrate this (and to reduce costs), a large amount of the food served by the group is surplus food from grocery stores, bakeries and markets that would otherwise go to waste. This group exhibits a form of franchise activism.”
Anyone is welcome to cook or dine with us, so you should come on out if this sounds like it’d be up your alley.
