Excuse this next paragraph; I seem to use the word “I” a lot.

I am the proud father of two grown children who are doing very well. My ex-wife and I have been amicably divorced for over ten years.

I grew up in the Midwest, and I feel as if I was formed in Chicago. When I received my first graduate degree, I was recruited by a large company based in California, and that is how I got here.

Professionally, I make money in a variety of legal ways; however, I am not exclusively tied to one 9-5 job. I have done the corporate scene quite successfully earlier in my career; also, I have owned my own business.

Spiritually, I was raised a Catholic, and I still participate. Currently, I am exploring Buddhism. I am trying to develop a meditation practice – not always too successfully, but I will keep trying to move in the direction of mindful living.

Philosophically, I believe that ultimately I am responsible for my own happiness. Sure I go through tough times and challenges, but I work at being resilient – kind of like the Energizer Bunny – still going.

In my spare time, I exercise, read, participate in volunteer activities -- just about anything except watching TV. My business frequently finds me on the road, oftentimes outside the US. I have had the good fortune to live and work abroad in a variety of countries. Also, I speak Spanish as a result of my travels and work. I just started Pilates -- great addition to an exercise program.

I hope to find a lady who is cultured and athletic. Culture is important to me because it implies a broad world view. Athleticism is important because it means that we can do a variety of things while communicating. I like sharing time with active people who have a broad world view.

Some of the cultural interests that I hope we can share include foreign or independent films, museums, concerts, ballet, opera, good food and lectures. Athletically, I would love to meet someone who likes to do things such as run/jog, bike, hike, swim, kayak – just about anything other than sit around.

On a first date, I would want to do something low-key such as meet for a cup of coffee, perhaps dinner. It should be a chance to talk and listen a lot.
