I am separated and seeking a divorce, so I am not planning to rush into a serious relationship. I'd like to make friendships that can potentially become long term relationships. I am leaving a "marriage" of emotional abuse- constant criticism, controlling, demands that I change my personality and stop sharing my opinions and more. He didn't like me for who I am, but I deserve to be liked for who I am! Thus, I will be honest in my profile about things that may be turn offs for some people! This makes it simple- if you don't like me, you can move on =)

I am equally left-brained and right-brained, so I am very analytical, but also drawn to be creative and enjoy creativity. I enjoy a variety of crafts such as beading, embroidery, etc.

I love learning and I love to read. Favorites include: Charlotte, Emily and Anne Bronte, Jane Austen, Nathaniel Hawthorne, Arthurian Literature, Old English, Thoreau, Emerson and many more, including non-fiction as well.

My ultimate goal is to earn a PhD and be a professor. At the same time, I'm not ridiculously serious. I don't usually engage in pretentious, confusing conversations with big words. I don't discuss physics for fun, but my idea of fun tends to be intellectually based. I like museums, zoos, national parks, visiting historical sites, visiting homes and graves of famous authors, etc. Unlike a lot of people my age, the idea of getting drunk and hanging out in bars does not appeal to me. I want to be myself and be liked for who I am, not what I become when I'm drunk.

Sometimes I feel like I should have been born about 25-30 years earlier than I was. I have never related well to people my age. I love older movies, styles, music, books, clothes, etc. Music is incredibly important to me- mostly "classic rock" and I deeply love Brian Wilson's genius. My ideal mate will "get" it as well. In fact, music is so important to my life, that I prefer to share musical taste with someone to really relate. This includes: Steely Dan, XTC, Peter Gabriel, Jason Falkner, the Moody Blues, the Who, Lindsey Buckingham, The Beatles, etc. I cannot stand rap, heavy metal, hip hop and most country.

One thing that sometimes misleads people about me: a lot of my interests are rather hippie-like or liberal (Tree hugging, retro clothes, 60's music, etc.) but my morals and politics are rather conservative. I need to find someone with this same mix. People sometimes assume I am liberal based on knowing some of my interests, but are surprised (or angry) to find out that I'm pretty conservative in my views in other areas.

I cherish cats. I adore them and love working with rescue organizations. I also like small and medium dogs, but am not super crazy about the bigger types. Animal conservation of all types is very important to me.

I love the outdoors. I frequently travel to national parks and historical areas, and I enjoy camping and hiking.

I don't like sports. And I don't get along well with "manly men." I prefer guys who like art and music more than sports.

Favorite shows include: Buffy, Angel, Wonderfalls, That 70's Show and the Office.
Movies: Jaws, The National Lampoons Vacation movies, the Graduate, adventure movies such as Indiana Jones, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Jewel of the Nile, and Romancing the Stone

I usually vote Republican. I am against illegal immigration, I don't like abortion, the public schools are a disgrace and waste of money, welfare is a scam... you know the drill. BUT, despite my strong beliefs in most of the traditional Republican areas, I don't like greedy big businesses that work people to death just to make stock holders rich. I also hate greedy developers that trample all over land and destroy trees, natural habitats and areas of historical significance. When I can afford to donate to charity, I support no-kill animal shelters, nature and wildlife.

I moved to California to be with my ex. I didn't like it at first and I'd never wanted to live there. But, after having lived there, I am homesick for it! I am one of those people who finds spiritual fulfillment and peace in nature. I'd rather acknowledge God in nature than in a church. In southern California, the sun shines almost every day and the sky is the most beautiful shade of blue I've ever seen. The plants are green year round, the sun warms your soul, there are awesome mountains everywhere and the ocean is never far. Natural wonders abound, and those are the things I delight in. I never thought I wanted to live there, but now I don't think I can NOT live there. I came "home" to Ohio to find the support of my old friends and to get my life back together after my divorce. My goal is to get back to California, but this time on my own terms, not because I am head over heels about someone and giving up everything to be with him.

I am open to meeting people all over the US, but in a year or so, I want to return to California. I wouldn't mind meeting (via e-mail) people who are in the greater L.A. area.

My ideal man would be intelligent and well read. You don't have to like the same books as me, but let's be open to sharing new ideas on both sides. I'd like to meet a fellow conservative, but it's not essential if you are willing to listen to my opinions and share your own without getting angry. Music is very important to me. I didn't list every band I like, just a sample of types I enjoy. One of my main hobbies is going to live shows, so I really need to find someone who enjoys going with me. You must love to travel! I am constantly taking day trips and try to fit in at least one or two bigger trips each year.

On a shallow level, I am really attracted to longish haired musicians who wear retro clothes and wear them well ;) I've always wanted someone to write a song about me...

The best first date I ever went on involved a beautiful spring day with perfect sunny weather, a long hike in a beautiful area, a tour of a national park I'd never visited before and a lovely stream side sunset. I enjoy anything that involves a pretty day and nature! This was with someone I already knew, but I wouldn't do that with an internet meeting.
Oddly enough, I do not enjoy going out to eat (long story) and I'm not crazy about movies. I usually like to be doing something other than staring at a screen, but I'm not completely against movies. Still, for a first date, it seems like a good idea to do something where you can talk and get to know each other. Museums, local parks, festivals, etc. are always fun.
